Go to a Chinese school, or find a tutor.

  3. I use a dictionary. And for the quick way, I watch dramas with the Chinese subtitles. I would suggest to learn Mandarin because written Cantonese isn't the same as spoken Cantonese.

yeh agree, dramas with subs are good to start picking it up... then there's things like reading song lyrics / karaoke - [http://karazen.com/] do romanised pinyin lyrics so you can read them as if they were english and learn that way...

here's another website that i find really useful - [http://www.cantonese.sheik.co.uk/scripts/wordsearch.php] - you can search for words by copying and pasting or you can type in jyutping (canto pinyin) and find words that way.

Yes, I suggest to start with mandarin too. It is far easier as Cantonese can be spoken and written quite differently. To watch films with subtitles is a very useful way. Certainly, a lot of practice is essential.

agree with all of those above. Mandarin might be more useful in the long run too.

    Good luck!!

I took it in highschool and college, but the problem is that they only teach mandarin. Also watch chinese drama should help. My advice is if u really want to learn then dont stop cuz i learn it in highschool and then I stop. When I took it in college I 4got everything. Now I dont remember some of the characters that I learn in college cuz I stop after I pass the class.

  9. Lmao, ermm my Chinese isn't so good since i moved to Canada after completing grade 1 in HK. i learned Chinese by music [KTV] xD and watchign dramas, read the subs while listening =P I speak canto but i watch mando dramas and listens to taiwan music =P

  10. go to sing K more often... -lol... n then read lots of chinese mag n books... just skip the characters u can't read n go to the next one... n u can usually guess wot the previous characters is... n if u do this a few times u'll recognise it in time...

is there a good interesting way to learn it apart from sing k and dramas cause it just dont stick and it's too fast to even catch!?

I couldn't read Chinese or read them neither. But sometimes when I need to translate English to my parents I would just get the translator.
