I agree with the price issue. I think that's one of the main reasons why automatics are not so common in Europe. I do disagree on the fuel effeciency though. That believe stems from old automatic transmissions. See this link for fuel efficient cars and you will notice some automatics in there: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/FEG/bestworst.shtml Manuals don't neccessarily go faster either. That would depend on the engine, the driver, the type of automatic transmission, etc etc etc Is the Topic Starter (hellohuiyang) reading all this ? I have a feeling I am on my "automatic" bandwagon for nothing ... lol
^ yes they do, auto licence is for auto only, manual covers both. get manual, its fun and you can rev the crap out of your car, i was thinking of getting an auto cus sometimes driving manual kills your calf muscles cus of the clutch. auto is like mario cart
no question go for a manual. once you get the hang of it, clutching and shifting is second nature. in fact you may develop an itch for shifting. IMO manual drivers are overall better drivers too, less likely to be distracted since both hands and feet are needed to drive the car. personally driving a manual doesnt really take much more effort to drive than an automatic. even though i spend an average of 45 mins looking for parking in a hilly neighborhood, i never find myself wishing for an automatic.
f1 uses paddle shift bb u do know wat a paddle shift is rite? hahahaha its more like a racing simulator game! except it has no restart button wen u crash lol hahahaha
I wonder though ... all those saying manual, did they actually try a modern automatic (e.g. not like 10 years ago) ? They barely sell them here in Holland, so I'm quite sure most people here wouldn't have even had the chance to drive one in their lives. In the USA I have the impression it's the other way around, they mostly sell automatics. Not sure if that's true, but I don't recall seeing a manual when I was over there. So the automatic vs manual choice might be a culture thing as well.
stick is more fun to drive but i can't stand it when i'm stuck in traffic for an hour in a stick car...i'll just stick with the step-tronic transmission wher eyou get the best of both worlds minus the clutch
Stick is super fun to drive...but if ur lazy like me and like to txtmsg with 1 hand n drive at the same time... auto lol
As someone who drives only automatic, I think manual is the better choice. You have more control, save gas/the environment, and you can drive any car available to you (e.g., a friend's, a rental, etc.).
hm... never tried automatic.... i wonder how it feels like ... ? :O but i like manuell cuz i have the "formula 1 driver"-feeling :O
Most fail-o-matic gearboxes are never on the right gear at the right time. Unless you go to the new Audi or Mercedes automatics, those, are beautiful. Another reason to stick to manual is because it is rewarding after you learned it.
