Hey everyone! Im planning to visit HK this summer...And im sooo exicited!!!....does anyone know any fun places to go? Like good restaurants, lounge, clubs, ktv, sight-seeing, and etc, etc?? Thanks!!! Please share any interesting stories hehe...
^ really..??....quite a few of my friends liked it.... give this thread a read....lots of places recommended: http://www.dramasian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36037
ummm i went to Disneyland to 3 years ago and i didnt think much of it, thought it was small but these 3 years might have changed and expanded and added lots of stuff, i dont know but maybe ^^ and yeah read the thread bb posted. i mentioned quite a few things which are quite good to go to if you're going out drinking etc, MTR wont be usable after midnight as they close ~ so to get home, best to use "sui ba" if you know how to or just take a taxi and its half-price at night cos i was wrecked going back to Tung Chung from Tsim Tsa Tsui ^^
yup. i was surprised too but thats what my friends said to me at the time and i was like "ok", so i got in and then just went back with a friend. he paid for it so im not sure how much he paid, i was too busy throwing up outside the taxi ^^
Ocean Park? I don't know. I hadn't seen it since 2005 (before the re-development) so I really can't comment; but prior to that, it was really falling into disrepair, and some of the rides (like the gondola) were becoming hazardous (like falling 80 feet from the air and smashing onto the ground below - lucky no one was on it when happened). They're also getting a lot of competition now from Macau's Fisherman's Wharf and of course, Disney (which is even closer than Macau and reachable directly by MTR), both of which are nearly brand new and offer many things that OP can't. For my money, if I didn't have much time, I would rather spend it at the latter two over OP. But it there was an excess of time, then it's still worthwhile to include it, for nostalgia's sake if not for anything else. -rolleyes My suggestion is, if anyone is going to be there only for a very short time, then look through a guide book to get a sense of what is the standard fare and must sees of HK. But if there is an entire summer planned, ie living with HK relatives, etc; then it's probably even better to just ask them. Either way, I hope he enjoys himself, and I wish I was going too... -woot2
the last time i was in Hong kong about 12 yrs ago. i would like to go back if the pollution gets better. but I don't think it will get better any time soon.
One of my fav activites while in HK is shopping in Mong Kok, and the food around there are cheap and tasty too ^.^
The problem with questions like this is, it's another way of asking "what kind of tastes do you have?" Everyone is different. Some like the high brow, whilst some of us like the dirty low down, if you know what I mean. Some want to know where to score a good price on an antique, while others need to know where to, ahem... score. So, what kind of lounge or club are you referring to; the kind of place to drink, dance, listen to good music, or a place that has a parade of out call girls for your choosing? What kind of good restaurants do you need; the five star Peninsula Hotel kind, or the really good ethnic food in a street stall dai pai dong? Sight seeing too, is the same question. What do you want to see? The Great Buddha Statue, or topless bar? Otherwise, you're going to get the basic hit or miss answers that you see here. By being specific, you need to narrow it down. For example, with me, when I go to HK, I ask around for people who know Jade; good jade, cheap jade, fake jade, et cetera; good places to get them, bad places to get ripped off at, and places to hob knob and bargain. Give me the low down on where the stuff comes from, how to tell good from bad, how to talk the talk so that they won't realize I'm a newbie and rip me off. See what I'm talking about? And get ready for something you don't want to hear; HK is one of those places that you're going to wish you had done something after you had already left, every time. So get used to the idea of planning your next trip even before you're leaving for this one. LOL... Oh, and bring an under the shirt, shoulder holster wallet that fits snugly. The locals all already know about the neck strap wallets, and even if they don't rob you, the tell tale sign of the neck wallet marks you as a tourist ripe for the rip off. And the first thing that you gotta do is buy clothes that make you look like a local. Leave all your fancy backpacks and foreigner shit in your hotel closet. And review your info before going out, that is don't, ever, ever be seen in the street with a guidebook in your hand. That is like carrying a huge sign that says: "Come fuck me to tears because I'm stupid, and I will pay you for the privelage..." -hellothar LOL...
Basically if you see many people lining up to enter a restaurant it will most probably be a value-for-money/good quality restaurant. KTV is pretty much everywhere, as long as you go to places like Neway, Green Box etc. they should all be similar. Ocean Park/Disneyland maybe a bit expensive but both are fairly good places to go and spend a day at. Good shopping centres are located in Kowloon Station's 'Elements' (High Class), Tsuen Wan's 'Citywalk,' and nearby shopping centres, Sha Tin's 'New Town Plaza,' 'Olympia City2/Langham Place' in Mong Kok, Causeway Bay's 'Times Square.' Tsim Sa Tsui for all the museums and view back to Victoria Harbour (try choose a non foggy day) Make sure you get plenty of fluids and shade during Summer time in HK as it can get stuffy there.
wear shorts, t-shirt, bring a wet towel with you and go to the shops, shopping centre just for the air conditioner every 10 minutes, cos you're gonna need it in the summer ^^
That's what the little plastic bags are for; ZIPLOCKS, one of the greatest travel secrets of the world ps for those that need to hide their money in inner areas of clothing, ziplock bags will also keep your passport and money dry.
