Bihar mother kills daughter to appease deity

Patna, Feb 14 : In a bizarre occult ritual, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her mother and brother in a Bihar village to appease a deity, a police officer said Saturday.

Sunita Kumari was killed in Hardoravara village in Siwan district Friday after occult practitioner Harendra Sah asked the victim's mother Sachia Devi and brother Ramesh Kumar Yadav to sacrifice her for divine blessings.

The shocked villagers informed the police and demanded action against those involved in the killing.

"It was a case of a girl child sacrifice to appease god and get rid of all problems," the police officer said.

A case has been registered and Sunita's mother and brother have been arrested.

well .. i don't know .. people still believe in those stuffs in asia these days. when you hit rock bottom and no where to turn, you will do whatever .. you know what i mean. it may appear stupid to us looking in (which is btw) but to them, it's a chance for blessing from God or whatever that they're after ... lol

I beg to differ. I would hesitate to so easily indict their 'culture'; it had nothing to do with it. Note that the rest of the villagers was just as shocked and horrified by the act as we. This is no different from a case of someone walking in the subway (underground, metro) and throwing a child under the wheels of a passing commuter train, for the purposes of "seeing the child become an angel" or some other ridiculous rationale. Would you qualify that too, as "fucked up culture" or instead rightfully assign it to the bizarre machinations of a lunatic?

IMHO, there is insanity all over the world and it frankly has very little to do with culture. Some people genuinely are crazy to the point where murder seems like a well reasoned option. The fact that both she and her brother participated only bespeaks of group psychosis. The poor unfortunate girl had a mother and uncle who were both nut jobs. Even the black arts voodoo man that involved himself would qualify as a religious nut; throw the lot together and you're sure to have some horrific result.

lol this has nothing to do with culture and religion and everything to do with common sense. I mean what the fuck were they thinking was going to happen after they killed her? Divine blessing or no, you're going to end up in jail for murder, and that's not a very pleasant future no matter how you look at it.

If you think this was bad, you should read up on the killing of albinos in Africa for their body parts to be used in magic rituals by 'traditionalist' shamans. These things exist as fanatical cultism that is extremely far afield of mainstream culture and religion, regardless of regional locale or political affiliation. Remember the Hale-Bopp Comet and the Heaven's Gate Cult ? In a word, these people are lunatics. >.<

There are still a lot of crazy shits happening around the world, superstitions passed down from generations are implanted in them since childhood. So they don't think there's anything wrong with it which is sad.

I've been looking for it; I remember reading about this in a newspaper after a woman did throw her own child onto the tracks of an oncoming train back in the 1970's, way before computers and server storage of news. So unless it's been digitized, I doubt that it would be easily accessed. If I do find it, I'll append it here.
