Ehhh, earlier this wekk, I went to the autoshop with my sis to get my oil changed and stuff. Would you tip the guy for doing it? He is providing labor and a service. We didn't tip. >.< The price was already so high ugh. Restaurants.. I'll tip, barbershop, taxis...
yea... if they want a tip they better be hand feeding the food... and wipe my mouth with a napkin -lol
Yeah, I wouldn't tip for mechanics because as you said, they already charge you for service... With waiters and such, it's different because they get a horrendous hourly wage and thus must depend on tips... I don't tip my mechanic when I get an oil change, but I'll get like food & stuff for them to have when I retrieve my car... But when I bring it in for service at the dealer, I certainly don't tip... cause I paid for that stuff already when I bought the car.
At the moment I am in London, I think is ok to tip someone that serve u politely in the restaurants/coffee shops. But since I am still a student, so my tipping wont be that much...
Hmm this brings me to a very interesting question... if you were with a hooker/gigolo..... would you tip them?? I mean like "shy" said the service was already paid for after all... or would you get them food aswell -lol
I think tipping should be based more on performance deserve basis, but society has really messed that up. If I had really bad service, I can't see myself not tipping since I don't want to be stared at. I would just give a smaller tip.
I ususally tip more over 20% depending on the services. If there was no services or rude manner i usually tip like a buck or two no matter how big the check is.
Lol. I have the same problem. At some places you literally have to hunt down the server and ask for the samething over and over. Until they give it to you. In those cases, I seriously felt like not given them anything. But the weirdest thing is, the server is always there right when you pay for ur food and about to leave. I kind of feel bad cause the person is right there so I always end up given a tip even though they don't deserve it.
How much is too much tip when you eat out, have valet parking, drink at the bar, or take a taxi? Do you even have to give tips?? Have you been stopped for not giving tips??? I have always thought that tips was a bonus for excellent services; not a must do thing and I thought that all tips that are added to your bills should be before taxes, not after; not so the case. I don't know but these days when I eat out, services are fucking suck and I always reluctantly to give any tip at all. However, I pity these people working minimum wages so I spare the change. Seriously, it's BAD and I am surprised these staffs have not been fired from attitude to behavior. For example, my colleagues and I had dinner at this nice place where you would think services to be "top notch". When we were there, it was shitty and the restaurant wasn't even that busy. We waited almost 20 minutes before our order was taken and then another 30 minutes for the food to come out. Damn, we were hungry after work and had to wait almost an hour to get fed .. Guess what happened? The chef and kitchen staffs were watching the game when I was passing by the kitchen on the way to the restroom .. WTF .. So we complained to the manager and canceled some of our orders that was still preparing in the back. Just when we were set to leave; just waiting for the bill, it came and we had to pay for whatever we ordered even though we didn't eat. WTF .. and they even added 20% tips to the bill. They thought us professional wouldn't make a scene and have plenty of money to give out; fortunately, we had a frugal Asian (more specifically CHINESE) lawyer with us who stood up and threaten to call the police to retify the situation .. lol .. glad we just paid for whatever we ate and got out of the place. WE had to give tips too cuz it said on the menu that party of 6 and more, 20% tips are automatically added to the tap. SAD but yeah, no more sympathy since that experience.
yea i hate that too... when they add service charges on. unfortunately it is legal so long as they mention it in writing somewhere before you come in. I usually give a 10% tip, a couple of bucks more if the service was excellent. kinda off topic but i hate flirty waitresses that want a good tip but dont actually give good service, it annoys me even more to know that it works and they probably get tipped alot so i give them like a dollar out of spite.
I tip only when they deserve it (friendly services, good atmosphere etc.) So if it's like $78 I would tip $2 so they could keep the extras
yeah .. i don't know where you lived but here in the states like CA, it's not it work. i recalled another incident where my friends and i were out for dimsum at this popular restaurant. the service was crap and i do mean crap so my friends didn't give any tips; just pay the bill. guess what? the waitress ran up to us at the door and asked how come we didn't leave a tip and all eyes (people waiting for tables) turned to us .. my friend was so embarrassed that she just gave $5 and rushed out of the restaurant. i think with such economy, waiter/tress should learn the basic again that tip is a bonus; not a must. the reason why high class restaurant add the tip to your bill is cuz the owner is paying shit to the employees and expect us customers to flip the cost. greedy owners ..
lol just say no money left or tell it str8 up (never go to that restaurant again), your service was crap. lol there goes their job though.
^ who pays cash? everything has been charged to the credit card so at that moment, she just grab her wallet and gave her the $5 cash. btw, did you know that any tips that's on the credit cards belong to the owners; not the waiter/waitress?? i didn't know that .. that's why those staffs like cash tips instead.
yeah when i was working in a restaurant for a theatre, theres like a little basket of tips as people pay their bills at the till, all that money goes to the supervisors. in a day, there was like £100 on average but it dont go to the waiters :( whereas when i was working for Hilton hotel, you do get people who tip you personally and i got £30 for a table of 6 during a function that was a good feeling ^^ as for when i tip people, i normally go with a bunch of friends and we usually pay £10 or £15 per person for Pizza Hut depending on how many there are of us. if 8 people, then £15, if 5/6 then £10 each and that usually covers the bill and whatever is left over then its tip.
