.. well i dont think our economy can or deserves to be saved.. I think its needs to die and get reborn... if that makes any sense..

    It is actually quite good
However, it's not that we don't know, is more like we don't care or we don't bother...

I mean who will actually change after watching this video? Maybe you'll consume less but it won't stop us from consuming...

Take example of a water bottle, no industry is going to change the design of the bottle, but knowing all these factors, you would still buy the water bottle because we need water... -_-

lol right, but we CAN stop buying plastic water bottles. Just filter your own water and refill bottles.

  15. Can't believe I saw the whole thing o_O

Anyways, the theory and the concepts are there, but the problem is is the implementation of these theories and concepts. These are easy to identify, but are extremely hard to put to application.

Using her own example against her, she claims that our current consumerism flows in a linear pattern, and that there are things behind the scenes that we the consumers are not aware of. This is true, however, her solution is also of a linear pattern. Now I am not referring to the fact that her solution is a cycle of the 3 Rs, but the fact that she is not taking into consideration the disruption of the chains attached to each step in the cycle. By rushing to implement the 3 Rs cycle, the cost of breaking the chains attached to each of the process steps will be extremely high.

In an effort to make the world clean, the majority of current employment, processes, and resources will be in a state of chaos.

Now I am not claiming that the world shouldn't be clean, rather, prior to tackling that final implementation of the 3 Rs cycle, people should break the chains attached, by providing an alternative, THEN proceed to implement this final proposal.

Analogy: Imagine a prisoner with a boulder shackled to each of his limbs. instead of forcing him to move with all four boulders, which would be ineffective, remove the boulders first, and then let him move.

Although I agree with your idea of a total rebirth, unfortunately, that is something that is fictitious and will never be allowed to implement.

The cost of the chaos attached to a rebirth of an economy is just too high. What you are suggesting, essentially, is that every single person in the world is out of employment for a period of time. That is essentially Armageddon. People need to work to survive. and work is synonymous with economy. Now if the economy is to be reborn, that would mean that the economy has to die, which means no work, which means death of the human race.

The economy can be fixed. The problem, once again, is due to the human variable. Economy is fueled by the use of credit, money. Unfortunately, irresponsible people augment bad credit, and thus, banks lose money. If banks lose money, they are afraid to loan money, because people wont pay them back. If people can't get loans, they can't buy homes, cars, products. If they can't buy products, there is no demand, only supply, no profit, lost of money for companies, lay offs, lost of jobs, and the economy stalls.

You're looking at the economy as being consumed by evil. Kill it, rid of the evil, and start again with the good. The problem is, the economy is more like an engine. Currently, the engine is turned off, because people are not spending. The economic engine is starved of money. We need to spend in order for the engine to start again and run.

Now this video wants us to do the opposite. It wants us to reduce consumerism. Stop consumerism, and the economy dies. This is the result of trying to stop consumerism.

The solution is not to stop consumerism, but rather modify the process of consumerism for the better of the Earth. It is possible to have a green Earth, and yet still have consumerism.

Remember, consumerism is the fuel of the economic engine.

Obama speaks of the same thing I have mentioned in his speech to Congress.

unfortunately once there is a market for something there will be production..... its inevitable...

the economy doesn't need to be reborn... it needs to evolve... the US can no longer continue trying to dominate in every sector of this global economy... it needs to cut loose the failing sectors and let the international market take care of our lack of production in those areas... especially in manufacturing goods... we simply lack the resources to maintain profitability in manufacturing... why pay US workers $15 an hour when we can pay the Vietnamese $7 an hour and provide less benefits? people in the US needs to wise up, and get an actual education rather than rely on Unions and the government to save "their" jobs...

of course there are always exceptions, but not everyone can live on exceptions...
