I was bombarded with emails, mails, and phone calls from my alma mater asking me to donate money and time recently. I was pissed when one of them called me this morning at 6:00 AM cuz he forgot that I lived on the west coast. That was it so I asked the guy, why do you ask me to give back? The school has done nothing for me. I paid for my education with time and money; not like it was free so fuck off. Do ya'll get this from your schools???
nopes.....i thought it was kinda weird for schools to ask you to donate some money...US thing..? i get the one off phone calls from advertising companies...and sometimes gyms coz when you sign up to gyms you have to put down 3-4 friends #'s and my friends like to put my # down so they ring me advertising their special offers all the time -____-"
Nope, usually I reject them, but if they're so persistent and keeps on calling me, I'll start getting aggro on them. We got a weird telephone company called Telstra who ask for your birth date before doing the anything else...dang...that indian guy was so persistent, he called us 8 times...2 more times and I'd get a lawyer on the company >.>"
i would NEVER... donate money back to my school... i paid(and still paying) huge sums of cash to an institution who's constantly on budget cuts and cutting classes all the time, no parking, expensive books... fck that... i would however donate back to organizations that i was in during the time i was there... but if they called me up at 6am... i'd be like... wtf -.-;... hang up... and give their heads a nasty call and email... yes both!
i know people who get lots of mail about updates and donations .. but no one gets phone calls did you actually tell them to "fuck off"??
LOL thats ridiculous!! Okieee my uni is sooo *bleepin* stoopid... Like i pay for my tutition and stuff and am gonna be in debt after *sob* And like what exactly do i pay all this £££ money for anyways? Lecturers who simply readdd off the slides? And if there arent enough handouts u have to go print them off urself (in some cases)... which u have to PAYYY for to use their photocopier and printing T_T And like sometimes they dun even give u handouts cos its like ooooohhh basically if u turn up then its a bonus for u... But its like HELLOOOO we're all payin to be educated u kno! And like... okiee some people cant make it to the lecturers for whatever reason... But like sometimes they dun even make it avaliable for u download... And... Books!! So expensive aR!! :( Sooo... *takes a deeeep breath* They seriously want u to 'DONATE' money to them? Okieee then -noclue:nuts:
I hate my schools so I am not giving a penny. 90% of my classmates were fucking wealthy, arrogant, and selfish SOB. The schools themselves have almost the biggest endowment in the US already and they still keep raising fund. In fact, I learned that they use those money to help low income pay for college ... WTF. I had to pay (ok with scholarship from a private foundation) but the schools gave me nothing. I applied every year for money and they just give me loan. FUCKING colleges.
They ask you for your age to see whether your over 18 or not.. Just lie to them and say that you're not and that there's no one in the house that is over 18. They'll just hang up on you. They called us the other day and tried to to convince us to change our home line/internet to them; They kept offering so called "better" deals then the current provider. Back on topic, my brother used to get calls once a month or so from the P and F at school asking if they would like to donate towards a school library that wouldn't be even built until he graduated. We'd already donated quite a bit, but they were still looking for more donations. Still hasn't been built yet.
i can't change my address cuz i am living in a house i bought; not a renter anymore where i can pack up and just leave without a trace. i can change my number but then they will call my parents' home. it happened before. they're very aggressive.
I remember once, in the middle of a day off, I got one of those calls, and in the middle of the "conversation" with the cold caller, I pretended to be interested and made it seem like I suddenly had something urgent to take care of by saying, "...uh huh, yeah... wow, that's really great, uh huh... uh huh... Oh... Oh... could you hold for a sec...?" To which the guy immediately said, "sure..." I laid the phone on the couch (without hanging it up) and went back to playing some computer game. My wife came home about and hour later and asked, "why's the receiver laying on the couch?" LOL... -bigsmiles The thing that cold callers can't stand is a waste of their time. They actually prefer that you just hang up, so they won't waste precious time and move on to their next potential commission. By making them spin their wheels, it's probably the best weapon to make them drop you from their listing. "Nah, don't call this guy, he's the ass hole that will put you on hold and then walk away, he does the shit on purpose just to waste our time..."
^ yeah .. i can do that but all these cold callers are alumni volunteers .. i don't wanna be on their "hate" list .. as much as i hate the colleges, i still wanna my future children to get into these schools with the legacy program.
My school recently called my house to ask for donations. Specifically the engineering faculty. Honestly they get the most money out of any of the other faculties at the school, but they still expect me to donate? Especially when my tuition fees are higher than other students? Not to mention the endless amount of "new editions" of textbooks.
i do get these calls. i just ask them not to call but at the same time i do give back Schools are in realy financial trouble. the cost of our tuition doesn't even cover enough for what it really costs per student to attend the school. The money we donate can enrich a students life, especially the money that goes into scholership money. I find it bad that they called so early int he morning. But don't think that the money is just being used for nothing. I'm guessing you are the type of person who doesn't donate money to any cause.
no lol... schools are usually all in some sort of financial crisis... they all want to add new classes... like wine tasting lab or prep classes for actual classes -.-;... seriously our school has classes that teaches students how to take notes... ffs if u don't know how to take notes by the time u enter Uni... u should fail -rolleyes
i do donate to local charities but for my school, NO. i do give back with "time" by acting as an alumni ambassador and interviewing potential incoming freshman in my region. TRUST me, my school has the biggest endowment in the US; possibly not far behind from the world of schooling. I am really nobody to be giving ... my donation is like chum change to the school.
I know that our largest school in our state is laying off people because of lack of funds, and they expect to be laying off more people because of state cut backs i think as long as you are donating to some causes you are a good person you can't do it for everything they don't do the "do not call list"? cause after i asked my school not to call me, they never called me again
well, i told them before but it never worked .. they called year round but excessively during winter and spring; the fundraising seasons. no layoffs at my school. they're hiring all the time but you gotta be well connected to get in .. that's all .. unless you're one of the lucky few.
I've never heard of this where I am before and am glad I don't get bombarded by donation requests like that. I'd feel bad saying no, since I wouldn't want to burn any bridges with alumni or the uni (just in case I ever go back for masters or do a different degree). It's not like I cannot afford a small donation every now and again but I reckon they are heaps of organisations that are more worthy of my money.
