I can't stand my boss from NYC. She came in for a meeting today and told everyone that she'll buy lunch. Guess what? PIZZA. I was fine until she told my assistant to order ONLY 4 large pizzas (make sure it was 10 slices each) instead of the usually 6 - 8; no drink or salad. There are 20 people in my department alone so that mean only 2 slices each. WTF? This bitch is making >300K a yr plus bonuses and stock options. We are professional; not slaves .. I was pissed off so I told my assistant to order drinks, salad, and 2-3 more pizzas. I paid with my own money. SO FUCKING ridiculous.

After the meeting, she stormed into my office and cursed at me for undermining her (you can't believe the things that came out of her mouth; someone who you thought is highly educated); gave a warning, and threatened to fire me if that happens again. I am a VERY serious person so I swore back at her and quit at the moment.

We have 6 very big new clients all from my network that equal multi-billion dollar business but I am taking them with me. I don't know if she knew that I was recruited by her very BIG BIG boss who also happened to be my senior in college. I just got a call from him so here's the deal, unless the bitch quit, I am not going back. He told me; this bitch has been with the company for 22 years. He can't fire her. He apologize to me on her behalf but I hung up his phone.

I have my side business as an independent consultant so I still have incomes. My wife told me that I shouldn't have let my anger clouded my decision-making but she said it's better to quit than working under such miserable supervisor. I am only with the company for about 7 months now so not a big lost; not to mention my severance pay and stock options. If I don't get my pay, I file lawsuit for harassment cuz the whole department heard the conversation.

It's BAD to have an old bitch as a boss; worst if you have a stingy one; much worst if you have those who has PMS .. that's why WOMEN should never be placed in management. THEY are horrible.

i don't know yet .. the econ ain't great so business will be slow .. sleep on it for now and continue w/ my one person show . .. lol

if i do start a biz, you gotta meet at least the 2 basic minimum qualifications:

    1. you gotta have lots of GREAT connections (that how you generate businesses)
    2. at least a master from a college in tier 1. (alma mater means a lot in this biz)

  4. read kodak. dude does have an independent consulting business.

anyways, negiq i think it might be over exaggeration.. don't you think?

i mean, quit if you will, but hanging up on your hiring boss? that's basically cutting your connections, if in case you need any in the future... and since the economy is so shitty, wouldn't it be better if you played it safe, by trying to talk to your hiring boss before quitting? even if you have to tolerate this bitch, couldn't you have made some deal with the hiring manager to not allow that bitch the privilege to fire you?

i dunno, my two cents. being in a family highly affected by this shitty economy, im willing to take any job im given.

right now, i only have my consulting business to fall back to. my old man has to create his own independent business, since companies arent hiring high level execs anymore...

lol so you quit your job over 2 boxes of pizza?

not trying to judge, but since its a forum and you're posting your problems anyway.... don't you think you're over reacting a bit?

It sounds like you might have an anger management issue man. Also, there's no need to be sexist, i'm sure your wife wouldn't appreciate your comment.

If this were me, i would have just taken it, said that i just didn't think there was going to be enough food and made the call to order a bit more. Then i'd work towards taking that woman's job from under her as quickly as possible. There's often two ways to deal with work issues, you can either be insidious or blatant, and i'd rather try to get this person fired than quit myself. Honestly, she is probably laughin it up while you're sitting at home out of a job.

First you make yourself indispensable, and then you make demands.

UPDATES: I went to sleep after a horrible day and just woke up .. can't sleep anymore .. lol
Anyway, checked my email and there's a note from my senior who said that he'll try to relocate that "old bitch" to another region. He apologized on her behalf and suggested that quitting doesn't help either the company or myself with the current economy. He will hold my resignation till Monday and if he doesn't hear from me then, my letter will be handed over to HR for processing.

So I guess I am not totally out of a job yet. He's my boss but we've been friend for over a decade now. I don't think I was overreacting at all. I have issues with her the day I started working there but I held it in. We're short on staff in my department and she continues to deny my request of hiring additional help regardless of regular/temporary ones. At one point, she has the audacity to ask me to do her work - writing up reports and stuffs for her whilst she was away on vacation. It's so ridiculous because she's from NYC and I am here in the west coast office. She's extremely condescending and CHEAP. Anyway, today's behavior and language were out of line. I did not undermine her by ordering additional food. She's only here to preside over our meeting but has no clue how much is enough for everyone. I was being nice and paid with my own money. Only my assistant knew about it. My guess is that she is having those woman's emotional issue or pms time where she just lashes out on someone. The last thing you will see is someone of her professional status blab out such languages in the office especially over such petty matter as food for a meeting. It must be one of those time .. lol ...s till unacceptable .. gotta save my face too in front my staffs.

  8. biter... that's already what im doing... LOL

seems like your big boss gave you a solution.. i REALLY think you should reconsider it...

yea i agree with hadouken (ang). u do seem to have let ur emotion cloud ur judgement and u overreacted and released ur anger at once. u could have handled the situation better but it is good that u have a gd big boss. also, tbh u should be pleased if they even offered to get u food and if u were unhappy with the amount mention it to the boss that it's a bit less. she may have bought some more pizzas or taken it into account next time. ur boss does also seem to be trying to use coercive power over u from what i can see but i can see that ur having none of it as ur friends with the big boss. if i were u i would rele consider staying at ur current job due to the current crisis, may be hard to find another job as stable. besides even if ur boss isn't relocating i still think u should stay at ur job. cos if u say that ur boss rele isn't that great i'm sure the big boss will pick this up anyway. it's their job to do so.

There seems to be a lot of passive aggressiveness going on here, on the parts of both parties. Sound advice from most respondents; the economy status being what it is, it is not the time to be diving out alone, long client list or not.

Hanging up on a superior, regardless that he was a college buddy, may have been a huge professional mistake. Sure, you may have been angry; but it establishes a confrontational precedent and the man now knows that he has a subordinate who is willing to disrespect him under certain conditions. I'm sure that like any other manager, that little 'factoid' is being filed away in some mental folder, and who knows when it would become the X variable in some future calculus? Company politics can be awfully dangerous.

The seemingly innocent trigger of the few extra pizzas was just the spark in something that has obviously been percolating for a long while. The venomous atmosphere, like you stated about everyone hearing the outburst, is easily apparent. I'm sure that the object of your 'affection' isn't sitting still; she's probably actively undermining you too in ways that you don't yet have a clue. Good luck staying there, you're going to need it. :rolleyes2:

I supposed she does have her "power" established being with the company for 22 years. My friend has only been there for 6 years so he still has to give her some face even though he's her boss. For me, i am still considering right now. I got the sign on bonus already and if i leave now, i get my additional bonus, severance pay, and stock options. after all, i made it a point all the way up to the top management in nyc. i should just leave whilst i am ahead of the game. dunno yet .. need to think things over a bit .. income is not a factor for me temporarily cuz i have a very stable side job and investment plus my wife's income .. so we are doing ok.

    I totally agree with you

I'm guessing you have other issues beside this one incident, cause if not you are a total IDIOT for reacting to the point of quitting. Who cares if your boss is cheap, where in any work contract is she required to even buy you food? What i learned in training is that you make your boss look good, it is NOT inappropriate for her to ask you to help do some of her duties while she is gone, in fact if you do them and you do them well it will make both you and her look good that she will like you more and give you more responsibilities which will help for career advancements. What happens to your work while you are away? Does she help pick up the slack? Does someone under you help pick up the slack? Someone has to do it, and the fact that she gives it to someone of a lower level means she trusts that person to be compitent, and that person has potential.

For someone to have survived that long in that atmosphere, she certainly isn't as simple as you make her out to be. I would be very careful. Also, I certainly suggest that you explore some of the reasons why there is so much hostility and sub rosa anger in your work place. Most companies recognize that employees cannot be at maximum productivity if they're constantly looking over their shoulder and more worried about office politics than their projects. Not only is it unhealthy to the worker, but also the company's bottom line. At any rate, regardless of your choices and outcome, I wish you well.

I have to agree with the other people, you lack the tact to deal with that situation correctly. Yes, only your assistant knew about you paying the food, but believe me, your assistant will tell everyone, its inevitable.
