What Chinese dialect do you speak?

    I can speak/read chinese in canto and mando and some japanese

    yea a lot of Toishanese CBC in Canada, including me. But you got to visit Toishan someday..it's not all that bad, mostly countrysides with mountains everywhere. I am love hiking.

    I speak Cantonese and I love it! I hate when other ppl tell me Cantonese is the minority and unimportant one because obviously all the Hong Kong and chinese celebrities speak Cantonese so who cares if the others speak Mandarin. I also think Cantonese sounds more elegant.

    I can only speak Cantonese and vietnamese. i learn vietnamese for the friends i hang around with

    I dun think I ever heard of hokkian spoken b4. What does it sound like?

    I speak fu jian (hokkian). I understand a bit oral mandarin.

    Hokkian is spoken mostly in Taiwan, Malaysia and Indonesia.

    wahh... i can only speak cantonese and english..
    i can bits of mandarin and spanish too
    my nan speaks hakka and i still dont have a clue what she says i even need my cousins or aunts or mum o translate for me..
    but i prefer "wai tow" from my dad's village.. meh i guess im takin after my dad as a village girl from yuen long xD

    canto is the dialect i speak.
    mandarin i learned for like 10 years in chinese school but can still barely speak it in convo lol.

    I also speak english and french. been trying to learn jap, but uni work is getting in the way.


    yuen long as in from Emergency Unit and lat gai? Lol sorry my geography of china is very bad. Then my geography in general is terrible anyway.

    No offense, I know you probably may not even realize it, but when you abbreviate Japanese like that, it would be taken by most people of Japanese descent as the equivalent of saying it like:

    "...been trying to learn chink." :rolleyes2:

    "Jap" considered a derogatory and racist term to Japanese. If you need to shorten a Japanese reference, it may be more socially neutral to use JPN instead.

    ah sorry =S My usual way of writing is full of abbreviations everywhere, to the point that it may be incomprehensible. I will take note of that next time thanks ralph ><

    Yuen Long is in New Terroritory (Sun Guy) vasicly the agricultural/north of HK islands
    I havent been watching TVB much these days coz im stranded away from my TVB satalite from home as im uni uni lol
    But have you heard of "Hun Hurne" mooncake? its from Yuen Long xD
