Hot computer is Hot

Discussion in 'The Rant Section' started by Dan, Mar 26, 2009.

  1. I noticed how hot my laptop gets when playing games (and yes, you will say that I shouldn't play games on laptops), so i did a test with Orthos and HWmonitor to find out the temps during heavy processing.

    Here are the results:

    That can't be right...... IT'S OVER 90...O.O

this is without a cooler pad. I usually use a cooler pad, but still, I don't thinking it's supposed to heat up that high even without a cooler pad...

    specs:

    Gateway M-6874h
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 @ 2.20GHz
    3GB RAM
    ATI Radeon HD2600 512MB
    32-bit Vista Home Premium

FFFUUUUUUUU---- I'M BURNING MY HAND WHAT'S GOING ONNNNNN

Taking apart a laptop can be tricky, so unless you happen to know a lot about computers I would completely avoid doing that. I would check that all the vents are clear and that the fans are still working...

  9. yea, the problem is, the vents on my laptops are tiny, about a millimeter, or 1/16th of an inch wide...

3 series of 10 cm of those little vents... BAD case circulation...

are you sure your room isn't also very hot? is there adequate space around the fans so it can cool off?

Sometimes my computer will go into the 90C's as well, but that usually only happens if
    1) I'm making it crash
    2) Its like 35C in my room already or
    3) there is less than 1inch's space on either side of my laptop (where the fans output air), and its already hot in my room.

Those are some basic pointers without having to deal with hardware issues... which I'm not good at, at all =/ Also, since you're going to game on the laptop, I don't think the whole idea is unrecommended, but just try not to have the game on 24/7. I find when I leave the game on for too long the fan will go crazy.

  15. 1) i don't crash my computers
    2) it's 20C in my room
    3) the table is empty

    I don't, i have a solid desktop for that.

Who buys a laptop for gaming... you buy a laptop for

    a) portability
    b) functionality
    c) reliability

My Macbook fills all those requirements and more.

Although, if you really did want to game with a macbook, the MacBook Pro can play most newer ones... i think it can even play Crysis on low/mid settings.

  17. lol... and now instead of help, i get a lecturing... :heherm:

sorry bro, i tell it like it is.

nothing you can do about the heat imo. The gateway tablet i bought 4 years ago had the same problem and eventually the mobo fucked up. Couldn't run the comp for more than 30 minutes before it would restart. Luckily it broke within the first 3 weeks and i returned that shit to best buy post haste.

^yea i agree. I saw the brand later, gateway, and thought it's probably manufacturer's/designer's fault =/. Good luck.
