Girl In Nude MySpace Pics Child Porn Arrest

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by master_g, Mar 27, 2009.

  1. A 14-year-old girl has been accused of child pornography for posting nearly 30 explicit nude pictures of herself on MySpace.

The charges could force the teenager from New Jersey, US, to register as a sex offender, if convicted. Her arrest came as prosecutors across America pursue child pornography cases over kids sending naked photographs to one another by mobile phone and emails. Social networking website MySpace would not comment on the New Jersey investigation, but the company has a team that reviews its network for inappropriate images.

Police arrested the girl after a tip-off from America's National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children. Passaic County sheriff's spokesman Bill Maer said: "We consider this case a wake-up call to parents." The girl posted the photos because "she wanted her boyfriend to see them," he said. The teen was charged with possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography.

She was released to her mother's custody. If convicted of the distribution charge, she would be forced to register with the state as a sex offender under Megan's Law, said state Attorney-General Anne Milgram. She also could face up to 17 years in jail, though such a stiff sentence is unlikely. Some - including the New Jersey mother behind the creation of Megan's Law - criticised the trend of prosecuting teens who send racy text messages or post illicit photos of themselves.

Maureen Kanka's daughter Megan became the law's namesake after the seven-year-old was raped and killed in 1994 by a twice-convicted sex offender. She said: "(The 14-year-old) should have an intervention and counselling, because the only person she exploited was herself."

these sex offender laws are bullshit. This girl is going to have this on her record for the rest of her life, its going to affect her schooling and future jobs.

IMO the whole sex offender list is fucked up. Putting a 14 year old girl who made the mistake of putting some nude photos on myspace alongside child rapists and molesters is seriously fucked up.

The united states has some seriously backward legislation when it comes to sex laws and i think the entire system needs to be reworked.

The sex offender list doesn't even seem to work very well in the first place. You still hear of many repeat offenses in the news by child rapists, regardless of their status on this 'list'.

Give the girl a few counseling sessions, maybe a talk on why this is wrong then send her on her way. Don't turn this into an epic court case on american values about underage sex. There is so much damned hypocrisy on this issue anyway in the US. You have dozens of TV shows sexualizing young girls and telling them to dress and act sexier. Just look at that Miley Cyrus chick, she is like 15, dating a 21 year old guy, she's probably been sexually active since she was 13, and yet she is still a major role model for pretty much every single young girl in america.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. Can't stand all the hypocrisy and bad reasoning.

even though she's stupid i do not think she should be registered as a sex offender. I mean what the fuck isn't a sex offender supposed to be an adult luring kids, she's still a kid and kids do stupid shit like this but it's not her that should be punished, its the people that go and collect these pictures. It's a heavy penalty for an exhibitionist, i mean so kids doing this gets an harsher punishment than if an 18+ year old do the same thing, wow that's pretty new. I thought crime punishment gets more critical as a person ages.

A law is a law, and fair is fair. If a boy has those pics, he will be a sex offender. A stupid girl should be no different. Let the judge do the job and use his/her discretion.

  7. lol a troll is a troll and unfair is unfair

dude go get yourself some common sense before you come back.

there are such things as stupid laws.

Words cannot express how much I pity your ignorance.

Yes, she did make a mistake but she does not deserve to be classified as a sex offender.

    Please don't reproduce.

  9. ^ & ^^ he has a point, If a 14 year old boy was in this girls position what would be your thoughts on this.

imo there is not much you can do, this is the filthy immoral society we live in, she is simply a product of society, should she be punished for that?.

If it was a 14 year old boy did this I think he should be punished but still not be labeled as a sex offender.

The whole being labeled as a sex offender thing is a bit over the top and outlandish. It's like getting charged for assault and battery for tripping over your own foot and falling.

I agree with you that the girl should be punished but what they intend to do is way too severe.

    ^i agree kontra....

i agree, but i have to say, i do think these young teenagers should go to some sorta bootcamp to talk abt it n learn stuff or whatever to help her realize that this is wrong n why this is wrong as it seems as shes not aware of what the hell shes doing
    maybe it would help?

  12. ^ being labelled a sex offending doesn't make sense, maybe she needs a ban from the internet for a while or something. besides that what can you do?, community service? not much options.

yea sex offender is just harsh, surely it's freedom of speech lol and i don't see how this makes her a sex offender. just seems like a silly mistake. i agree with the others counselling is fine. besides surely the idea that she is a minor means that she is able to make mistakes.

the issue of gender won't have an effect on what i think, if he show his nuts i still don't think he should be registered as a sex offender lol. but actually i don't think people would think that it is as taboo as young girls showing themselves naked, they'll probably just laugh it off.

Labelling a 14 yr old girl as child sex offender for sending her own nude pics seems really harsh and wrong, beside shouldn't the guy be the one who gets charged, he's the receiver and viewer of it...:ugh:

    Welcome to 2009

    The_Jelly NSFW? :P

I think people need to realize that the person posting the nude images is not a child. They're going through puberty and are more sexual, they are adolescents. This is just one of many ways in which they are exploring their sexuality. These laws are so fucking stupid sometimes.
