this suck... i got my lip pierced last week n now i have to remove it cause of work. my boss came back from vacation n slapped the dress code on me. there are other people who works for the company who has more piercing on their face than me. i don't really want to take it off. a lot of people say i look nice with it. mayb there is another alternative to it...
dress code .. you would've been fired from my team .. i can not have any professional on my team with anything like tattoo or piercing visible. even though we might know you're good or whatever but people always judge you on their first appearance and believe me, NO ONE TRUST anyone with piercing or tattoo .. stereotype or whatever ... that's just the reality. if you want a job, you better take it off and keep it off. otherwise, the other options are nipple or dick or tongue or whatever that people can't see.
wow that sux...u should have researched b4..now u got a hole..rn't u suppose to leave it on for a while otherwise it'll heal?
yea, i can understand ur boss... i mean its probably not very representative.... maybe ur colleagues with piercings have a different function... if i remember correctly u do have to visit customers sometimes right? n i agree with kodak.... hmmm... maybe u can take it off when u go to work... i dunno... is it a lotta hassle? would it look ugly if u dont wear it? i mean, do u see a wound or whatever? or does it look same? I know some ppl who arent even allowed to have nailpolish on or wear big earrings..... so strict... but just have to follow the policy...
sadly your department is just more strict i guess.. but you gotta listen to your boss if you want to keep your job, in the end.. he pays you...
You should abide by his rules because he's the one paying you but you can put it on when you're not at work I have these dress codes when i was in high school and trust me,it was worst...No colored socks, only white or blue shoes, wore only the school pants(no jeans)
most work places do not tolerate piercings and tatoos to be seen, except ear piecings, so you should have researched you're companies dress code before you done it HOWEVER there is cure... i would every piercings should have those special see-through thing that you can put in the piercing so that it couldn't be seen and it keeps the piercing open.. i know it exists for ear piercings so im sure if you went back to your piercing parlour you could ask them if they have any of that every high school has the same dress code but some are more leanient than others.. i remembered watching some programme about World Strictest Parents in Africa and their schools are very strict on the whole make up side of things.. on the other hands, most schools in England has these dress codes but some teachers just do not care about them and are pretty leanient with them...
Personally, I think anyone who purposely wounds their own body just to display some idiotic interpretation of fashion is a fool; but that's just me. If that same fool is then dumb enough to risk a job over it, and in this dog eat dog economy? Then that fool deserves to lose their job. Your employer is not paying you to flaunt your subjective fashion sense, he's paying you to be productive. If you decide to become a distraction, there's plenty of other non-distracted people out there who would give their left arm for your job. "... i don't really want to take it off. a lot of people say i look nice with it..." LOL... Will you listen to yourself? I don't mean to be harsh but what are you, ...a five year old? Stop being so childish. Lose the hardware. The world doesn't revolve around you and what you want. If you want to make money; shine your shoes, put on a tie, learn to "yes sir" with feeling, and get that crap off your face. Kids like you are a dime a dozen. -noclue
i dont really c whats so hot in getting any of a person's "privates parts" pierced lol... but hey thats just me... to each its own! you just gotta do whatever makes u happy @mj9.... sometimes i wished we had uniforms here in NL cuz it wouldnt take so much time to get dressed n all that... but most of the time i was happy cuz NL is so laid back =).... @ralph: personally i believe there is a generation gap between u n alotta others here... u really do sound like other elderly ppl e.g. my narrow minded uncle from HK who told me not to talk to ppl with tat's n piercings...STEREOTYPING is the word i use for it sure there are idiots out there who dont know what their doing, get a tat/piercing just to look "cool" but there are plenty of others who think it's just the way they want to represent themselves to the world... n they wanna show their character that way also a piercing n a tattoo are personal choices... unless its for work/formal functions (when u gotta represent ur company) i dont c any reason why one must hide em.... just let ppl be who they wanna be....
it really depends on what situations people are being told off at, if the person already had the job and gets himself a piercing then he should have researched into it.. im not against piercings and tats coz i personally want tats but im too chicken to get them LOL also the views all depends on who influenced you the most, your friends and the society or your parents, me of course was my friends, not very close to my parents as such so they didnt influenced me except their inherent personalities lol
sorry buddy but i'm not a kid..... i'm a grown adult and i decide what goes on in my life. instead of a ring i changed it out to a stud now n my boss doesn't say n e thing to me about it any more. i have no problem taking it off but i rather keep it on. it in no way affects the performance of my job. i no how to think for myself and if my boss says it has to come off, then it comes off. like everyone says, its stupid to loose a job over sumthing as little as this.
we don't know .. why don't you try it and tell us whether it hurts or not ... lol @misscheek .. generation gap has nothing to do with it. i am only turning 30 and i feel the same about piercings and tattoos. we don't live in stone age but reality; anyone with piercing and tattoos from my standpoint and any executive professionals are a NO in a workplace. yeah, you can express yourself with whatever you want but that ain't gonna change ours and societal view of them. we had this argument before with tattoos so i am not gonna repeat it ... ralph is also right about doing them for a fad reason is just plain STUPID.
