There has been some unfortunate misinformation that avoiding the eating of, or handling of pork products will provide protection from this disease. That is FALSE. Swine Flu is transmitted the same way that the common cold is. It is only called swine flu because it originated in pigs. Once it travels to a human host, and one human gives it to another it is INFLUENZA, or the FLU. You can avoid it by staying away from crowds, not sharing personal items (like a spoon or fork), not touching something that a dirty hand may have touched (eg. door knob, sink faucet, elevator button), and avoid having others sneeze or cough in your face. Oh, and...

You can eat all the pork that you want; you cannot contract Swine Flu by eating pork.

    This is from today's paper

In a rush? For a quick synopsis, just read the red highlighted lines.

I can't help but to feel that the media is sensationalizing this when you see previous stories about Sexting and whether torture works.

However, I've read some pretty convincing testimonials from Mexico City doctors which would seem to confirm that this is actually a real and present danger to the international community. They need to quarantine Mexico now before this gets seriously out of hand.

i read about this a few hours ago on another thread from negi and no pork, and then i hear it on tv. people are getting scared shitless and thinking they need to stop eating everything...

it's interesting how diseases when knowingly associated with animals will cause the brain to think: "DON'T EAT IT." even though it may not really be the case.

good thing it's only gone to cali so far (not sure if this is still true ><)... it might not reach the country above it before the outbreak gets under control.

    Latest updates:

Remember to cover your mouth if you cough or sneeze, don't use someone else's personal items (likes fork, spoon, drinking glass, lip balm or lipstick), if you have to touch a common use item (doorknob, elevator call button, faucet knob) clean your hands immediately afterwards with an ALCOHOL based disposable wipe.

If you begin to notice that several (two or more) people around your location has suddenly taken ill (chills, cough, sore throat, fever, malaise, vomiting, diarrhea); you hay have been exposed. See your doctor.

Actually, the swine flu has reach NYC in the states, many students in a school was infected. It was reported that a few students went to Mexico on spring break and that's how they got it from. Lucky for them it's only a mild version of it.

HELLO? YOU CANNOT GET SWINE FLU FROM EATING PORK... -what?

Seriously, you catch it the same way as the FLU...

Honestly, I would kick the asshole who named this thing with such a ridiculously deceptive name. They could have called this, the "Mexican" Flu, or the "Southern" Flu, or the "Rio Grande" Flu, or even something that had nothing to do with it, like the "Florida" Flu... But NO...

They had to go with a name like Swine Flu, and in so doing, make every simple idiot on the planet think that you get this by eating pork.

I have all these symptoms except for vomiting. I did have a fever but its gone now.

lol i don't think its swine flu though, i've had it for a week now, im pretty sure its just a chest infection combined with a normal flu. The amount of phlegm i've coughed up in the last week is pretty spectacular.
