this town is also known around last year for asians getting pushed into water while fishing

anyways its so fuked up to see a asian teen defending himself get charged while he was defending himself and not the one initiating the fight. The bully deserves the beating and assault/harassment charges. It is sad to see this teen with honor roll grades get suspended and possibly expelled for defending himself.

I have always said that all the Anti China, Anti Chinese rhetoric have RACISM as its roots.

The situation can only escalate and not subside. Sinophobia rears its ugly head again. We need to denounce this racist stereotype at all given opportunity.

Its APPALLING that the boy who have incited racist resentment were not given any punitive action at all by the authority. Its so hypocritical that he was not even reprimanded VERBALLY.

Kudos to the classmates of the Asian boy who aren't Chinese but have stood up for him. They deserve all our praise and its important that we attack the issue of racism and points out too that there are good people around who are above the fray.

Here are some links on the rise of the Sinophobia trend.

It's a mistake that even I had made. Those from the region too, often fail to recognize that the only ones who are rightfully referred to as "Pacific Islanders" are those that originate from Oceania (Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia), a group of island chains peopled by indigenous Austronesian speaking cultures. This means that others living on islands within the Pacific (Kurils, Aleutians, Taiwan, Japan, Philippines, and Indonesia) are specifically excluded and referred to as Asians.

How can anyone generalize the entirety of western culture on the basis of one teenager's act? And as for westerners, here's a news flash, all of us Asians living in western countries are considered westerners too. But even if one would amend it to "stupid white people hating on us Asians" or some such, should one act of teenage disharmony in a high school generate such class hatred? Or do you simply hate white people in general? Often, acts of "defensive racism" is just racism with a false air of righteousness (eg, you only hate them because they hate you), when in fact, you're just being just as racist or even more so (eg. Your degree of racial response is overly disproportionate to the original insult).

LOL... what next? March on Washington? Picket the White House? (or whatever it is that they do in Toronto to demonstrate political displeasure). Please. From the article, it seems that the victim in this case, already has plenty of political and public support. Let the school system sort it all out. But, from where I sit, I don't think the school system was being unfair at all. Those of you who are parents can appreciate this; being called names is one thing, but as far as the school is concerned, it must answer to the parents of the children. That is...

When your child comes home with a broken nose and needs to be hospitalized,
someone (ie, the other child who punched him) needs to be punished and its as simple as that.

Suppose the situation was reversed, and the Asian child, after starting the fight, went home with a broken nose and needed to be put in a hospital. If the school tells the parents, "I'm sorry, but your child deserved it because he started the fight" what should the Asian parents do? Do they have the right to be angry? Don't they have the right to say, "he may have been wrong but he didn't deserve to get his ass kicked and put into a hospital for it..." Right? Wrong?

As far as I'm concerned, both should be suspended for fighting in school, and both should be subject to criminal charges. If one or the other can prove self defense, then that's up to a judge to decide his fate. In so far as racism goes, this certainly isn't another Vincent Chin type of case; not by a long shot.
