These folk on a rock near Europe are really nuts  They are chasing a ... CHEESE -what? The Cooper's Hill Cheese Rolling and Wake is an annual event held on the Spring Bank Holiday at Cooper's Hill,[1], near Cheltenham and Gloucester in the Cotswolds region of England.[2] It is traditionally by and for the people of Brockworth - the local village, but now people from over the world take part. The event takes its name from the hill on which it occurs. From the top of the hill a round of Double Gloucester cheese is rolled, and competitors race down the hill after it. The first person over the finish line at the bottom of the hill wins the cheese. In theory, competitors are aiming to catch the cheese, but since it has a one second head start and can reach speeds up to 70mph (112 km/h), enough to knock over and injure a spectator, this rarely occurs. Accurate information is hard to come by, but the tradition is at least 200 years old. Suggestions have been made that the event may either date back to Roman times or have been a pagan healing ritual, but there is no evidence for this. "The Cheese Rollers" is also the name of the nearby pub in Shurdington, about 3 miles from Cooper's Hill, but the nearest are The Cross Hands and The Victoria (both of which are in Brockworth). Competitors will frequent these venues for some pre-event Dutch courage or discussion of tactics, and after the event for some convalescence. Cooper's Hill is also known as a stop on the Cotswold Way. The latest event started at midday on 25 May 2009. Each year the event becomes more and more popular with contestants coming from all across the world to compete or even simply to spectate.[3] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOyQBSMeIhM

No wonder the British lost the battle of Isandlwana, so many naked man aka Zulu's running towards you -whistle The Battle of Isandlwana on 22 January 1879 was the opening, major encounter in the Anglo-Zulu War between the British Empire and the Zulu Kingdom. A 20,000 strong Zulu army defeated the mixed British and native troops guarding the camp of Lord Chelmsford's invasion force. Deaths on the British side included 850 British soldiers and around 450 African soldiers in British service. Those in the firing line were killed to a man. Only 50 European enlisted men and five officers escaped, in addition several hundred poorly armed Africans of the Natal Native Contingent fled the battlefield. The Zulus suffered some 1,000 dead and many wounded. Isandlwana remains the worst military defeat for Britain at the hands of a native force.[7] A decisive tactical victory for the Zulus, the battle was nonetheless a grand strategic failure, as the defeat pushed the British into a much more aggressive approach to the Anglo-Zulu War, which destroyed King Cetshwayo's hopes of a negotiated peace.[8]
i wonder how many injuries and broken bones this tradition has caused. probably a few face transplants as well. people are pretty crazy nowadays, crazy over cheese. though they should combine the tomato throwing one and this together, tomato and cheese go hand in hand.
