A two-year-old boy has died after being accidentally shot by his three-year-old sister in California, according to police. The girl apparently found a .45 calibre semi-automatic handgun under her parents' bed and fired it at her brother by mistake. The boy, Ruben Soto III, was reportedly shot once in the chest. He was taken to Kern Medical Centre but later pronounced dead. Police said the children's mother was in another area of their flat at the time of the shooting. Their father was at work. "It's pretty shocking, you know, parents having a gun when kids can get to it and it's loaded," Bobby Ortiz, who lives in the area, told news service TurnTo23.com. "I don't know if there's another word to describe it, it's just a tragedy," said Bakersfield police sergeant Greg Terry. "It's so important that, if you're going to have firearms in your possession, (you) make sure they're stored safely, so that incidents like this don't occur." According to the officer, it is illegal to leave a gun somewhere in the home where a child can get hold of it. i've always questioned the controversial-ness of the popularity of guns in american households. i wonder how this case will turn out, did the kids just simply open a low drawer, and BAM the gun was in their face? Or did they do "exploring" to get to it?
^oh well, parents who choose to have a gun in their home should take the responsibility to place the gun somewhere where the kids couldnt even find it at all *shrugs*
at least put it on top of a cupboard where they cant reach... that's why the no gun rule should happen

Parents will get convicted, get thrown in jail. Little girl is sent to either relatives or foster parents.
by mistake? she pointed it straight at him..... its not like she wasrunning, tripped fell and pulled the trigger and yelled HEAD SHOT falling..
There wasn't a safety mechanism on the gun? Also for the calibre of the gun, it's weird that a 3 year-old girl has the strength to pull what would seem to be a heavy trigger. =/
I actually feel really bad for the little girl, because she's going to have to live with herself for "killing her little brother" for the rest of her life. Her parents should have been more responsible..
that's why having a gun at home is more dangerous to ones own family rather than useful against a possible criminal.
