    My sister stupidly downloaded what came up on a pop-up about the computer being infected. She downloaded about 5 files I tihnk from that site, I closed it as soon a possible when she told me about it and the webpage, it looks like "My Computer" page. I did not pay attention to the webpage and I tried to look for it but Firefox deletes history so I couldn't. I don't know whether I'm being self conscious but I think it might be Trojan or Spyware? I don't know, I'm just really scare because my computer used to always break for me downloading stupid thing and now it's my sister. I've scanned it with Spybot and it didn't detect anything. I'm doing Windows Defender scan on the computer that I think it's infected right now and I'm gonna do a Norton scan which I don't think will be much help.

    The computer is Windows Vista if that helps? I'm not sure whether I have it or not and I've immediately disconnected the internet, hopefully it will stop it if my computer has been infected.

  2. connect back on the internet, update your favorite antivirus scanner, boot in safe mode and away you scan.

    Unplug your internet, then download and install a antivirus to your usb then update from a clean computer then scan your infected one. Boot in safemode and scan like dan said though.

    lol don't use hijack this if u don't know what to delete... you're gonna ruin your computer. do what jelly said first. use something like mcafee and scan ur computer. chances are if its a badass trojan ur screwed either way and have to reformat so just back everything like music/movies/etc into a external and reformat shouldnt take u more then 4-5hrs in such case

    I have used Spybot and it says congratulations cos it's not infected.

    I was wondering whether it was me being paranoid 'cos my sister only downloaded the files, she hasn't installed or download it.. I'm not sure.. maybe it was a tiny virus? I really don't know :S but I'm doing the scanning again now

    you don't even need to disconnect the internet, just press F5 during bootup constantly and get into safe mode without networking; and look for stuff that you normally don't see; delete them and from add/remove; delete all cookies and internet temp. files;

    if that is too much work, just format hard drive and reinstall the OS

    you need to run both.

    spybot didn't pick something up for me before. that is why I use 2 different anti malware software for check now

    If your computer seems like it's running fine right now then chances are you don't have a virus, plus it's rare that a computer will actually "break" from a virus.

  12. If you suspect you are infected the best thing is to do is format the thing, leave a partition just for windows ( around 25 gigs, if ur a gamer install ur games on another drive) so you don't have to lose all your data the next time you format (that is if kaspersky/nod fails you) . Now what a trojan can do if you do not know is have an unauthorzied user gain access to your computer and take advantage/spy on your computer in every way from seeing what you are currently seeing in real time to uploading child porn on your computer or downloading files from computer and simply key logging your passwords, its like having a second person stand behind your back without you knowing it attached with their external hard drive to steal your data and more.

    don't use that crap Spybot and Norton (worst programs ever!) , the best investments would be kaspersky or nod32

    Norton is no longer such a bottleneck on the computer, NIS 2009 have changed drastically that it a good anitivirus program; but i still use corp edition of trend micro;

    When I used to have virus etc, I could tell because of how slow my computer was. Is there a sign that Trojan gives out so that I know?

  16. nope its usually very small and well hidden, most are used to collect personal data or make your computer into a zombie by loading a virus so it could infect others , the best way to tell is to scan regularly as sometimes scanners aren't updated to catch it yet. Never install software from strange sites especially ones claiming to be virus scanners,removal software or codec packs without you actually going onto the offical site yourself, also watch out for a codec program (that is popular with torrent sites) which claims you need install a DRM identifier to watch unreleased/movies, its a trojan.

    I had a terrible experience with Norton when I had it the past. I don't think I'll really consider switching either, don't fix what ain't broken right?

    yep i agree, don't fix what ain't broke but if ur current software gets bad then u should be flexible enough to change.

    A few things to take note of....

    - After bootup, you cannot goes to the main desktop page.....means being hijacked
    - System slowing down due to unnessary files are being generated
    - Your email / game a/c is being hacked
    - System reboot error

    All this are signs of Viruses, Trojans, Malaware.....etc

    I personally think Norton is good. Bear in mind that Norton will also delete all your keymakers as well.
