I really dislike my neighbor .. one side is the RUSSIAN .. make fucking loud noise; bangin on the house all the time, and inconsiderate .. I hope the earthquake can shake their house down .. then the other side is the CHINESE .. pig house .. single family home yet there are over 10 adults living there and 10 cars that take up all the street parking ... I used to park in front of my house but now, I have to park 2-3 blocks from my house. That's the least of the problem .. the STENCH from their cooking .. OMFG .. these people have turn this middle class neighborhood into a ghetto. I wish I was back in those community homes like when I was in college where I can petition to force them to move the hell out of the place.

time to come to canada lol

my neighbourhood is cha's and portugeese people and i dont tllk to any1 tho there are times i had some bad encounters. I would live in a all chiense neighbourhood than what i have now. to piss your neighbour off..play some porn music LOUD volume and see how they like it. Basically you're fighting for property and they are winning as they are annoying you. You gota make them want to move out.

I have thought about retiring in Canada .. especially Toronto because of the air quality and healthcare system ... HOWEVER, after my uncle passed away unexpectedly last year, my aunt and I had such a difficult time getting through the legal system from getting a death certificate to claiming his insurance money. HAVE YOU EVER heard of the need to hire an attorney just to claim your insurance money and pension beneficiary? It was pathetic.

UK .. I only worked there for a short time so I don't know if I'd fit in. I can't stand the English accent. I do love Switzerland but not sure about settling there .. lol ..

@kdoctc .. I don't want neighbors to think I am a perverted freak and/or call the police with the loud porno sound.

^ UK accent hard to get used to? It depends where you are, if you understand American accent well then northern England or even Ireland is the place to be but it's jsut all getting used to i guess
health care in UK is free if u see your GP but got ot pay for prescription and shizzles like that unless you are on benefits then you can get that for free too

Vancouver is a nice pleasant place... you just got to be in the right neighbourhood. Apparently a lot of retirees retreat to BC because of the good air quality and lanscape, etc. No wonder i've seen a lot more old people recently...

Anyway, 10 adults in a house is nuts. What are they cooking anyway? makes me wonder. Not stinky tofu is it?

That's not true. In New York, there have been lots of complaints filed to the city's fire and housing department about illegal conversions or modifications to existing home structures, such that they become "unsafe" in the eyes of the city. Example is someone takes an attached garage and makes it into a bedroom to rent out; or someone partitions their basement or living room into several individual bedrooms or sleeping quarters. The owner of the house could have their certificate of occupancy revoked if they violate construction rules in certain ways. The fire department can order an immediate evacuation of the abode if they feel that it is unsafe. I would suggest that the OP explore how to anonymously tip off the city with photographs and details of the illegal conversion in emails from non ip traceable net cafe's.

Homeowners in New York who are confronted with such neighbors do this as a matter of routine. Some are actually quite open and up front about it. They will chase out those that try to illegally convert single homes to multi-occupancy hotels. You can usually tell right away; someone buys a house but has a team of unlicensed contractors come in with a ton of sheetrock.

A licensed contractor would refuse to do it. Are they licensed or not? Ask the walking in and out with the tools for a business card because you "may have a remodeling job" to be done. Then check with the city to see if he has a license or not...

As far as noise violations, most municipalities have noise rules past a certain hour. I would suggest one first find out what those are and see if that knowledge would help.

    ^ Thanks Ralph ...

1 - The Chinese neighbor .. I checked out the house when it was on sale and you're right, it does have 2 bedrooms in the basement and 3 bedrooms in the main living area. Those were there before they move in so they're not responsible for the construction and the fact that they don't have a kitchen in the basement, it's ok; just needed to get the paperwork done.

2 - The Russian one .. built room in the basement with a certificate .. they even put on a gate between our house; hammering on my side of house without giving us heads up. I called the Building Inspection and they applied for the gate $1300; now still up. They fucking slam the gate each time they enter and exist; creating noise to my home. I don't want to create friction between us yet but they knew it was me who called the BI pple. Anyway, I can still get the gate remove if I want by hiring an attorney and fighting to the fact that it's connected to my home without my permission. however, doing so will take forever, waste of money, increase friction between us, and most importantly, if I want to move out one of these days, I need to get access to their alley to paint that side of my house's wall

In the Uk, it depends on the neighbourhood you choose to live in. You will get used to the London accent eventually. If you love the cold, then London may be the place for you- not too cold or hot!

nothing much can do.. if too loud then call the police complain about the noise mayb? about the parking spaces, i guess there's no decent way of confronting 10 ppl ... like others hv mentioned mayb the happiest solution is just to move out..
