I'm getting sick and tired of how the media has portrayed Asians in movies and Hollywood's belief that Asians cannot carry a big motion picture on its own. Its been common practice for Hollywood excecs to replace Asian characters with White actors (i.e. "21") and now Avatar.

I'm not a big fan of Anime but Avatar struck a chord with me. It was the first cartoon I could remember that was American made but took place in an all Asian fantasy world with all Asian characters.

With the casting of the upcoming Avatar movie, they are casting White actors to play the protagonist (Heros) and Asian actors as the Antagonist (Villains) and extras.

I have no affiliation with the site of any sort. I'm really getting tired of the overt racism against Asian Americans in this country. If we keep letting thing slide, we'll never progress.

That is another example of unethical casting.

I'm sure there are people out there who do not believe it's an ethically issue but lets just take a step back from the situation and try to view it from an unbias standpoint and ask why are they not casting Asian American actors to play a clearly Asian character?

I'm all far for casting a qualified actor for the part but come on, they're casting sub-par white actors without even giving Asian actors the chance to audition.

lol @ antagonist (Heros) and Asian actors as the protagonist (Villains)

    hahahaha

imma have to agree with the fact that hollywood does not place asians in high profile main character rolls in most movies.

The obvious exceptions would be like Jackie Chan and Jet Li, but they aren't really on the scene anymore.

I'm a fan of Avatar too, so I'm also disappointed about the cast, but you have to remember there main targets are Americans, mostly white folks. They are sometimes trying too hard to add that white flavor, to get more people to watch the movies.

They should have just stuck to a animated movie instead of live-action.

They're just casting for their market. If they intended to sell the film in China, they would cast an Asian actor. People have their own tastes; and most Americans would prefer to see "themselves" in movies. That's going to eventually change as more and more mainstream films are produced in China and shown in the US. Once people are used to seeing Asians as full characters (and not the two dimensional cardboard cutout) ie, real people, then they will accept seeing Asians in real roles across the board.

The African American actor also went through this type casting period. If anyone remembers Hollywood Shuffle the satirical slap in Hollywood's face, it was essentially about how blacks were portrayed in American entertainment media at the time. Also this link

i reckon it would look way better if they had asian people act as the characters, it would make sense if at least.
