A SHELL-SHOCKED girl has lost her MEMORY after being hit on the head by a pregnant TORTOISE. Unsuspecting Cheng Cheng was struck by the 3lb creature as she walked with her aunt Ling Lang in Chongqing, central China. The 12-year-old was knocked unconscious and left with a deep gash wound across her head. She was rushed to hospital where doctors discovered she was suffering from concussion and amnesia. Ms Lang said: "I was walking and suddenly I heard a scream from my niece who was behind me and I looked round to see her lying on the ground covered with blood. "There was a tortoise lying beside her and I could see it had hit her on the head." Hard case The owner of a local grocery store said he witnessed the expectant animal hurtle at speed from above the girl before striking her. Doctor Zhuo Xuan, treating Cheng, said: "She does not have any memory of what happened to her or anything about her. "We believe the amnesia will only be short lived but at the moment she can't remember anything." Locals say the tortoise survived the initial fall but after laying several eggs died from its injuries. It has now been frozen pending forensic examination. Police have questioned all of the people living in a nearby apartment building but all have denied owning the reptile. A police spokesman said: "Given the force of the blow this tortoise, which weighed 3lbs must have been thrown from a reasonable height and we have questioned 16 flat owners all of whom have denied responsibility." The injured girl's father, Liu Xingbing, said: "I am furious at this irresponsible behaviour."
Poor little girl ... That's creepy, a tortoise Wtf is he doing in the central of China. Is it normal to see tortoise walking around in China >_<
That's like a 2inch gash, lucky it's around the hairline, it can be cover by her hair. Still, how does a tortoise drop from the sky...I want to think it's owner just left it out and the tortoise walked out a window. But if someone threw it, that person must be punish.
wait is this your n00b mistake or is the tortoise really "3 lbs" that just looks fucking insane, no doubt extreme pain...
This is one heck of a confusing story to me ...a 3lb tortoise flew and attack her and then lay eggs and died....WTF?!?!
this reminds me of a CSI epsiode...when a guy got killed by a tortoise but it was purely accidental.. cos there was an eagle that picked up the tortoise to eat for dinner etc....but then the eagle dropped the tortoise by accident an then it dropped all the way down on to the man's head who was just sitting there minding his own business then bam he's dead.. so this girl#s kinda lucky,...
Turtles, tortoises, and terrapins have long been staples of Chinese exotic cuisine. Such animal commodities can be worth healthy sums in China. There has long been an illicit trade in protected animal species, and especially so for Chelonia (order of shelled reptiles). I read an article a few years ago that discussed the disappearance of all sorts of turtles from certain areas of Viet Nam as poachers illegally harvested them to near extinction, driven by an avid Chinese market demand. It sounds like someone in that building was attempting to breed the tortoise but the thing escaped (fell off a terrace or climbed onto furniture and then out a window) when they weren't looking... Having 3 pounds of a solid object strike your head at speed can be deadly. The girl was lucky she wasn't killed.
so someone threw the turtle on her or it fell on her? i guess the title and headline confused me, pregnant turtle and all
when i first read it i was trying to figure out how it jumped and hit her head but it walked of a building or was thrown off. at least it popped an egg out, i actually feel sorry for the turtle.
Turtles generally try to look for a place that is moist and soft to bury their eggs. If the turtle knew she was about to birth, she may have been driven by instinct to actively seek a way out of the building, thus climbing out a window or terrace... :( Also, this from Shanghai Daily: Wow... Under civil law, they're guilty until they prove their innocence, AND if no guilty party is found, they can be mass punished? That is just mind boggling. ***Sidebar*** According to Wiki, the Red-Footed Tortoise is native to South America, and is classed as a species that cannot be exported from its home country without a permit. This would lead to the question of how it got all the way to Chongqing.
^ I bet all the tenants denied about ownership but somebody will bound to spill now that everyone has to pay if the owner is not found ... lol guilty until proven innocent may be a good idea in such case .. have the tenants do the police work of investigating than having the police securing a warrant and all that craps .. lol Since the tortoise fell from the building, it has to be someone living there anyway. It kinda scary to have things dropping from tall buildings... kinda reminds me of HK.
Nobody seems to care about the DEAD turtles. Still, that's one hell of a wound on her head... Importing a tortoise just to throw it out the window, mmmm.
