Rather than face/suffer the pain of their own health issues/illnesses and maybe watching their own spouse die before them would be heart breaking. They chose to die together, it's almost romantic.

Romantic .. in your dream. Reality .. NO. Life is precious and choosing death is just WRONG. We encourage people to live life to the fullest; not cutting it short due to some health problems. I think it's unethical that the doc assisted in their deaths.

When people get old and sick, regardless of their level of educations, they are not rational enough to make such a decision. You don't see "healthy" people wanna die so the sick obviously more susceptible to make the WRONG decision. I hope these people will go to HELL for their action. It's a BAD message for the people too.

I don't think it matter if they were religious or not IF God exist...
Now if God doesn't exist... than it wouldn't matter either -_-

I dont c the issue....they couldve hung themselves too... but its their own choice... they are both old...n both suffering...one is pretty much deaf n blind....going dead n being blind at age 85 is not really my pref either... so i can totally understand...
the other one has got terminal cancer which cannot be cured..... Why suffer slowly, go through the whole circus, try to extend a bit n bserng sum when one sees the other dying...

I understand that this is bad from a legal point of view where it prompts the question of whether euthanasia is acceptable for old age and could it be extended to, perhaps even, the obese and depressed. However, I have a feeling you disagree with the article more from a religious standpoint...

^ legal or not; religious or not; I just think it's just wrong. a doc's job is to save life and not end it.

quite frankly, if they want to die so badly, like misscheek said, they could've hung themselves or something quietly in their time and place. WHY the fuck go public about it .. to show they're romantic? I don't see it .. sorry. people who think so are obviously pathetic ones. not to mention, they could've donated their organs to help others who want to live.

^ur such a hater.... once again, ppl who have a different opinion are pathetic...if everyone agrees with u then there would never be any discussion so no use in starting a forum...

who said they made it public????? maybe the media just picked up abt it....

if i get to choose between hanging myself or euthanesia id def pick the second one... save the mess for others n look a bit more normal in my coffin....

Generally older organs, especially ones from deceased with chronic or terminal illnesses like cancer, are not accepted as donors. I'm not so sure that their choice was "public" in any fashion. They went to a clinic in Switzerland, for a procedural euthanasia. They probably did this to ensure that neither of them felt any pain in the passing.

Personally, I'll reserve judgment on this. Though life is precious, a short span of remaining life to be spent in terrible pain with no hope except the release offered by death; is not the just desserts that anyone ever wants as the ending coda to their existence. I don't know what I would do if I were in there shoes.

***Sidebar*** Hanging is probably one of the most painful ways of dying unless it's done right. Done wrong, the victim may struggle for several minutes, or even be decapitated by the ligature or garroting instrument.

its their life and they have the choice to end it or not. you obviously are not at the age, when your health is prone to all kind of diseases. once you got to that point you will understand how hard and painful and inconvenient it is to live at old age.

These people are not in pain ..

One is going blind or deaf .. what's causing the blindness? cataract; glaucoma; macular degeneration; what? .. still help for these conditions .. going deaf ... we have hearing aid.

the wife "MAY" be diagnosed with a terminal cancer .. diagnosis and prognosis ain't always right .. we all know that.

OLD AGE .. we all get there one of these days .. that doesn't mean we have to choose death over stuffs like these .. I most pissed about the doc here actually and the publicity.
