I'm running on Windows Vista, and for the past few months, I've had no problems connecting my laptop to my LCD. But lately, I keep getting an "Unsupported signal. Check your PC output" error message every time I try to connect. I've noticed that this happens every time Windows automatically updates, so if I restore my computer to undo the update, I am able to connect again.

But it's very annoying having to restore my computer every time this happens. Is there a way I could adjust my screen settings so that this doesn't occur?

    Feedback appreciated!

It's funny that I never had problems like that. I use Sony Vivo as my laptop and it connects to my Samsung LCD fine. Even when I have updates, it wouldn't knock me off line while connecting to the TV. I hope you can find the solution to the problem soon.

  3. most cases i've ran into were that the resolution that is set is usually higher than the max resolution allowed by your monitor.. try reducing the resolution and try again

in the field of I.T. that is not right...windows update isn't something that break things, it improves things...lol...un-necessary updates like bios update = flashing it or firmware updates are considered un-necessary...and only used when things aren't working...

but in this case is not, and btw ppl are probably too lazy to update everything that is why...i go thru each and every date to see whats important...or select all OR let windows update to decide :spank:

Never had that problem before, although I was really annoyed 2 nights ago when my laptop wouldn't connect to my TV through HDMI no matter what I do.(Restarting my laptop, turning off the Tv, changing channel, swiching cables). That's when I found the Fn + F4 button after over a year of connecting this laptop to my tv -_-.

windows isn't the problem. Check you LCD TV's user manual, it will tell you the supported resolutions for PC's. It's important to check for the frequency and the resolution.

  8. it is probably a resolution problem, also check your video drivers

make sure the resolution you set up matches with the LCD. if not scale it down to a seting that does

while on this topic, I've tried connecting both laptops (vista and XP) to the TV via VGA.
it shows up, but in black and white.

    anyone know anything about this?
    probably TV problem?

i use the S-Vid OUT connection from my laptop to connect to the TV... i found that if i connect it via scart on the tv its in black and white... but if i plug it in the front (the tv's S-Vid IN) then it's in colour... don't really know why though ><

is it just me? or does anyone find this to be helpful? -bigsmiles

Sometimes on NVIDIA video card, you have to run through the configuration to choose which method/screen that you want output to etc.

Sorry for being vague ... I'm not on my media center, it's late, raining night and i'm comfortably curled up in bed already.

Try checking your graphic driver settings in Intel, Nvidia, or ATI (no clue which one you have).
My Acer Aspire Timeline didn't really work until I configured it.
