LOLz, this has been known a long time ago, i even posted a reply one some1's failing hdd from dell computers and there is a firmware update on it too!!!

SG won't be going out of biz as 90% of the biz sector uses the SG brand...plus i have experienced failed hdd on all other brands too, nothing particular to worry about...

Yeah, it's pretty outdated information but it's something people should be aware of.

I've never had good luck with seagate drives.

I've heard plenty of good things about WD. Anyone ever have a WD die on them?

I have Seagates for over 10 years, fail rates like any other brand, nothing really special, they did indeed mess up with the 7200.11 but that didn't put me off, i now have a 7200.12, Seagate is still great for the price.

Aha my 500gb wouldn't show up in the bios guess its about time to ship it back for a replacement. My fault for being to lazy to update the firmware oh well at least it lasted a year+.

my iomega external 1GB HD failed.

it was just out of warranty, so i opened up the enclosure and there were 2 x 500 GB seagates in there! one of them failed....it has whirling sound.

i did not drop the external.....it just stopped getting recognized.

not as good as the WD Black edition as they come with 5-yr warranties

thats why never buy retail products of external hard drive exact only if they come with more than 1-yr warranty as you can get enclosures like Antec (w/ 3 yr warranty) and drives with 3-5 years warranty...

    these are good =)

    Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA2 OEM *3YR MFR Warranty*
Antec Veris MX-100 3.5IN Hard Drive Enclosure USB2.0 Black
