    lol. Prius > BMW

even after Earth has ran out of petrol, BMW > Prius. What aspect of the Prius makes you happy? That it's so boring that you don't notice how the car is bad? Or is it because you're happy that you'll be safe knowing you'll never reach the speed limit?

Less pollution, oh please. It's marketing. If you drive the Prius like you're driving whichever BMW-beaten-by-a-Prius you are driving, you will 100% use more fuel. The engine is so small and ineffective, the hybrid system is there to justify their lack of effort and budget by Toyota. How do you manage to make 98hp with a 1.8L engine in 2009? Turbocharging would've been better. Energy from the exhaust is used to power the turbo makes more power when needed. Power could come at much lower rev. To get those pathetic 98hp from the Prius, you need to rev to 6000rpm. I'm sure that at 6000rpm, it doesn't use those 4L/100km advertised.

VW Polo, Jetta, Golf diesel, would have been better. The BMW 120d, 335d, would've been lightyears ahead of the Prius.

Electric cars failed in the early 1900's. It hasn't changed. Still fails, only worst. But it's still around because retard Hollywood stars think they're green driving their Prius around LA and the whole green and hippie movement is still here.

    Yours truly,

    from a BMW fan boy.

P.S. Thirty six thousand !!!!!!!!!! for a Prius!!!!
I hope for your parents that hybrid system won't be problem, like the last 2 generations.

    lol
i had to chose between a BMW serie 3 and the Prius III

horse power is kinda useless in a city like Paris, small streets, lots of red lights

Prius interior design sux but it has tons of gadget included in the premium price while BMW 318i is like 27k euros with NOTHING
also the exterior design has become more sport and a bit younger feeling, i like it (the previous design of the Prius II was really ugly)

you get a really different driving experience, when u start the engine there is NO SOUND so u tend to drive peacefully
i dont think its boring at all when i got the head up display GPS, the automatic parking system etc i think its fun, just like a video game :)

i didnt know those hollywood stars drive Prius, ive thought it was porshe, bmw etc etc

im not a green peace hippie guy but i believe that my future grandson's world will be fucked up, thats my small contribution to the world,

btw the specs are for optimal use, just like for an iphone it says u can listen to music for like xx hours, do u think u can do that xx hours if u use the bluetooth at the same time ? ;)

if u use the petrol engine at full power it isnt ecological for sure but when do u get the opportunity to do that in a city ?
in a city it would be more like 50 km/h max sometimes 30 km/h and every 200m a red light or stop sign
u could reach high speed in highways and thats where the Prius III has been optimised, if u reach 80 km/h cruise speed u can use the eletric engine only

i still like BMW for the design and the efficiency, my BMW has 9 years and still running smoothly with no problem but i think its funny when people laught at the new Prius :p

up to now ive never heard of anyone unhappy or had problem with there Pirus II or III, Toyota is a great company nowaday ;D

whatever suits your parents, man. At the end, it may suit the European lifestyle better then us North Americans. And I did drive a Prius II. Holy mother of God did I hate it. It sure does get you from A to B but it really struggles. Anyways, we have different views on the car. This can get very nasty. I sincerely hope you enjoy the Prius. :) I was only shocked with the "Prius is better then BMW" statement.

oh, I hope you don't have any problems with your Prius, many hybrids has a hard time living up to the advertised mileage.

  9. actually, jeremy clarkson is right. it's how you drive it. eco friendly cars are made for people who can't drive economically, or can't drive at all

Man, which design started the whole broken-edges-headlights thing? First Nissan, now Toyota has it too? It's one of the few things that I hate. As for cars with electric motors, it's not going to be worthwhile until we find a better way to store power than the batteries that are being used today. Also, they'd have to be fully electric of course, then there's not the weight of another motor on the vehicle.

I don't see wht people are bashing the Prius...
Just b/c the car is faster doesn't mean the car is better...
and neither does the look of the car makes it better either

Toyota claims it's economical and fuel efficient but it's not. It's easily beat by a car with a diesel motor (and by beat I don't mean performance wise). People who buy hybrids are tricked into believing that they're "going green" and "saving money at the pump". In reality, they're better off with a diesel. What other basis do you have to support your claim that the Prius is a good car?

You're wondering why people are bashing the Prius when you should be wondering why so many people are obsessed with it. It's a cute science fair project but as a means of transportation, it's the equivalent of taking 1 step forward and 3 steps back.

  14. what kontra said.

also, no one said faster meant better. it's about riding in style. Prius is the antonym of style. it's on the other spectrum of style. it's the contrast to style. it's the total opposite of style. it is NOT style.

Well, in terms of production, I know that a hybrid actually use more fuel in comparison to a diesel vehicle .. But I still don't understand how it is better off with a diesel...

Are you saying if you are driving a Prius and a GTI exactly the same, you'll end up spending more money on gas on a Prius in comparison to a GTI?
I do not see why it's a 3 step back, it just require more investment in innovating the technology... Hybrid is still fairly new and it takes time to maxiumize its capabilities...

I like the prius. Hows the 'solar' cooling effect? The knob looks hella cool. But a bit too costly. I am traditional and hoping for more diesel to teh US.

The technology behind a diesel vehicle is cleaner than the Prius. Specifically, the method of construction. And since you already agreed that diesel are more fuel efficient, what advantage does a hybrid have over a diesel vehicle?

That depends on where you drive. On the highway, the GTI will consistently get better mileage than the Prius. On city streets, the Prius wins.

It's a new idea that's getting beat by technology that's been around for almost 100 years! How much time and investment do you think it'll need?

Well that depends how the vehicle is used... If it's for short term usage, you might as well get a diesel vehicle, if it's long term usage, you might try out the hybrid due to fuel efficiency...

So if the technology has been around for 100 years, we should not try to find new ways to improve our technology? I'm actually have high hopes with hybrid, something that came out for 10 years that have a similar capacity of a 100 year technology... I don't know about you, but I think that's a great leap in finding a new form of usage.

By all means, I'm not stating that diesel vehicle should not be used, but some of you guys are just stating that Prius is bad for the sake of being a Prius... The ability to charge the battery using the brake system and solar power technology is a great source of reuseable energy and that is not all vehicles have.
