lately, i have had troubles with the usb ports on the front of my computer. whenever i would plug something in, like my iPod charger or a WD hard drive or any other flash drives for that matter, there would be no problem. but when i UNPLUG it from the usb port, many times my wireless internet would disconnect and i would have to replug my modem. i don't know what's going on and this is getting really annoying... any help would be appreciated
were there recent software/hardware installs on your computer? are you using the pull out method without using the safely remove usb drvice? sounds like there is a usb surge from your description
nope, no recent installs on my computer. the safely remove thing doesn't really apply to me since the things i usually plug into the port are my iPod charger or my WD hard drive. i rarely use flash drives nowadays.
the safely remove is NOT just for usb drive, it is meant for any usb device that is plugged into it; if u try them and let me know know if it will still disconnect your wireless; besides maybe consider using a usb hub so that you won't be always plugging/unplugging devices in these ports; these port will become loose when you do this all the time; i never unplug devices that are in the usb ports myself
wow so that's what the icon down there is for... i always assumed safely remove was for flash drives cause san disc always had that thing. i tried safely removing my WD hard drive, and my wireless did not disconnect. so far i'm 1 for 1! and as for the usb hub, i think i'll have a go at one. you can never have too many ports. -worship
there are two types of usb hubs, one without ac power (external power) those are used for your usb gadgets and printers; if you are attaching a scanner to it, then u will need the hubs with external power as each port has a max power of 100mAH but most stand alone scanners uses about 500mAH.
i don't think i need a usb hub for AC power. i just need more ports for things like external hard drives and wireless keyboards/mouses. i'll update you on the safely remove situation as i use my hard drive more and thanks again for your help!
I was gonna say the same exact same thing. A lot of people just unplug their devices without knowing the consequences. Over a period of time there will be some data loss. Windows will say something that your data is corrupt once you put the usb in your computer. Once you get that you know there is some bad news coming your way.
do you know that it is better to eject any usb or cd/dvd from the computer than physically pull them out.
