Just do a search in your fav search engine, you can download the firmware off many sites and just update it thru iTunes.

There is no need to jailbreak it. Even if you did jailbreak your device, you can still restore it in the future before sending it for warranty.

Once you have the 3.0 Firmware downloaded into your hard drive, goto iTunes, under your iPod device, hold Shift and click Check for Update. Select your new firmware, and tada!

why bother to install the new firmware? general rule of thumb is - if it ain't broken don't try to update it

Yes. Just pay the $10 for the update... right now the newest is 3.1 I believe which isn't jailbroken yet.

What is this update or upgrade? I don't get it. Are ya'll talking about the itune thing or what? If so, I thought that's automatic. Okay .. now I am just confused ... lol Is this "new" supposed to do certain things/functions?

This is the update for your Ipod Touch so nothing to do with iTunes...

The Update has the same function as the Iphone so it alloys you to copy and paste now and you can have bluetooth and voice record and the finder and many others.... this is the 3.0 update..

for the 3.1 this will fix any buggy problem on the apps such as safari now its better and faster on the 3.1 update.....

and i think thats it on that but back me up if there is anymore..

    thanks-bigclap

"The update previously retailed at $9.95 and can now be purchased for $4.95 - UK users now pay £2.99 instead of £4.99."

I think it also allows compatibility with the new iTunes 9 features (such as app organisation) - i could be wrong though ( i havent updated my fw cause iits jailbroken)

For those who have the first generation of ipod touch, you shoud stay with the 2.0 version, because, the 3.0 is whortless for the 1st gen, the 3.0 activate the bluethooth on the 2rd gen. but the 1st gen don't have a bluethooth

True, but u get other features like spotlight (i know if u JB u get similiar featuers from Cydia) , but there;s also stuff like copy and paste, notes rotation ...from the top of my head

What's the actual capacity for a 32GB ipod touch?

Ever since i updated my ipod to 3G using the 3.0 firmware, the capacity seems to decrease to 29.56GB as the original capacity is 32GB. Is there any connection between the capacity and the 3.0 firmware?? I was wondering what could it be to cause a decrease in the capacity?

the firmware itself would probably be the reason in decrease of capcity. 3.0 firmware added a whole bunch of features.. which requires more memory i guess
