    There are so many good deals on laptops in US & Canada that you should have no trouble getting a good deal.
    To be honest, all brands should not be too bad, it really more depends on your luck.

    btw, all the centrino2 platform will soon be out of the market;

    ibm brands have the best reliability in terms of housing structure, it can beat ANY laptops that are sold in any retail shops

    Is Asus laptops unpopular?
    I'm using one and it's working to my needs. am on F8Vr on the new centrino2 platform. Running on Win7 RTM version (got it thru MSDN Academic) I like win7 as it's much faster than vista and xp to a certain extend IMHO...

    asus is good because it has 360 warranty, but is not "as" popular compared to others like HP, Compaq, Dell, Toshiba because the price is steeper than others;

    • 2-year global warranty: You can receive free service on your notebook at ASUS service centers worldwide for two years from your date of purchase.

    • 0 bright dot guaranty: If your LCD displays even a single bright dot within 30 days of purchase, ASUS will replace your notebook’s entire screen.

    • Free two-way standard overnight shipping: If your notebook needs service, we cover the cost of shipping it to us Fedex standard overnight from one of over 2,000 Fedex stations in the US. We overnight it back to you for free as well. In Canada, call for pickup from your business or residence to our Canada Service Center and we will deliver your notebook back to the same address, also using Fedex standard overnight.

    • 24-hour tech support seven days per week: Our customer service professionals are there to service you at all times (Holidays excepted) .

    Yeah asus is pretty good. When you buy one they usually come with a bag and a mouse for the laptop as well.
