Just earlier, I turned on my laptop only to be able to connect to Google and its sister sites like Youtube, Blogspot, and Gmail. I could not connect to anything else! The problem has fixed itself somehow now after a lot of freezing, restarting, tweeking of things, etc. I'm not a computer person, but I'd like to know why this happened and how I may be able to fix it for future reference. Is there something I can do to prevent it from happening again? It would be appreciated if it's explained in simpler terms! Thanks for any help!

Like noasian said, what did you install prior to this problem and what did you do to "tweek" things? I don't think its ad-ware or malware if it stopped after a few reboots...
We are missing the most basic information: - What is the exact Operating System ? - Which web browser are you using and what version ? - Have you tried another web browser when the problem occurred ?
Sorry, everyone. I completely forgot I asked this question in here. noasian: I installed some Windows Update thing. No idea what it installed. All I know is, I see the yellow shield and I shut it down so it can install. When I used my laptop again, it became like that. Phantoman: Operating System? Umm...Windows XP? Am I on target? Haha. Browser: Mozilla Firefox 3.5.3. I did try another browser and the same thing happened. Thanks for the help and sorry for my late response! I'm just hoping it will never happen again, but I'd like to figure a quicker way of dealing with this if possible....if I am ABLE.
have you tried system restore back to a month before and see if that will work? i know what you mean by the "yellow" shield but why do you shut it down to install it?
Hmmm, I am not sure how to explain this in layman's terms, but to find out what you installed before the problem occurred or to see if there were any OS errors, you can check the Windows Event Viewer ... Start -> Run -> type "eventvwr" [ENTER] ... then check the System and Application log files around the date/time the problem occurred. noasian: I did a system restore to a certain point before the updates were installed. That didn't work and it somehow messed up my McaFee security thing! Sigh. So I got the updates AGAIN and the McaFee was fixed. I shut off my computer because you know how it usually says to restart to fully install the updates or something? I just shut it down because I needed to. Haha. I hope I'm making sense with my processes! Phantoman: Thanks! I'll write that down somewhere and try to do it the next time it happens. I'm subscribed to the thread now (thanks for teaching me to do that too..haha); bad thing is, I don't check my e-mail every hour...haha. OT: Now I got another laptop problem. The charging plug thing is loose, so the icon switches to 'charging' and 'on battery' all the time! =( All I really need is a new laptop. It's four years old!
You can check the Event Viewer anytime, the log can span months. So you can just scroll down to the date/time the problem occurred last time to get some clues as to what happened. OT: Unless you know how to solder (which I guess you don't), buy a new charger
You're right! I don't know how to solder. Don't even know what it means. -confused I don't think the problem is with the charger itself, but the......hole, in lack of better terms. Oh well... -down
