Hi there guys i have a mac and looking for a External HD for you guys have a mac what brand HD you recommend and compatible with MAC and windows computers. as i use my pc and its a window OS sometimes i drag files from there and drag it on to my mac i know mac dose not like NTFS drives... so what HD work with mac and pc part from WD. what others.? thanks
Any external will work, just make sure its FAT32 since mac wont read NTFS. thats what ive been doing with mine. bought a 3.5" Seagate sata and a vantech casing =]
just get 2.5 ext hd, you could buy a external hd and case seperately, or just get wd 2.5" or similar if price aint a problem. if hd size aint a problem get a 3.5 external - if you do you can get 1tb, 2.5 is 500gb but should be enough. any hd should work with mac, if its in ntfs you can format to fat on your mac or windows
hi there i looked up 2 HD they are both 1TB.. 1-Lacie it looks like a shoe box with black and mirrored look and a blue LED Light. 2-WD My Book the black one. which one is the better one? i know most of you will say WD lol.. anyways yh need comments on these two.,,
yh i did that already before but im just looking for a HD that is compatible with both OS without any Mods or Anything just plug and play on both OS...
both are excellent in my book. i wouldn't be surprised if the Lacie drive used a WD hard drive. a lot are WD drives nowadays lol but they are still ntfs formatted, which goes back to the question OP had lol
im not sure if the lacie has a WD drive or not. what i know is the mybook it says plug and play they are nothing you need to do.. no reformatting needed just plug and play.. im not sure if thats true or not. reason my i went for lacie as it has a nice look too... lol..
it doesnt matter if it is in ntfs when you get it, just reformat it - it doesnt even take long to do it
i think all my externals are just fat 32. aren't the hdd that don't have an enclosure 2.5 rather than 3.5? cos 2.5 are more expensive.
plug and play really means nothing. by getting an enclosure and a WD hard drive, and reformatting it yourself, it becomes plug and play afterwards. and sooner or later, you will have to reformat your lacie to be compatible with your mac, so you're essentially wasting money. you can get an enclosure that looks as nice, or nicer than a lacie. what did you gain? nothing much.
i bought this one last weeek...toshiba 500gb... and it works fine on both mac and my old window comp..
wow that hdd looks nice, but i'm pretty sure all hdd are about the same so i would just get the cheapest one about. as long as the sockets seem tight them it's fine. my friend has a portable 2.5 hdd which is new but the cable is a bit loose so that's a bit annoying. i guess that is what u rele look for when u get an external hdd.
