    What is the opposition side...
"A foreign language can be learned, and taught"
or is it "A foreign language can only be taught, not learned"
or is it "A foreign language can only be learned, not taught" already the opposition?

What she is trying to say that
"Language can not be taught, we learn it ourselves"
And the opposition will be counterargue that...

Without lessons and guidance we can't learn any language. Just like the concept we can't run before we learnt how to walk. That's why our parents teach us how to speak at first before we go into school. Then schools teach us how to write and how to be creative with our languages. If we learn it ourselves without any guidance, we will get errors with our grammar, the pronounciation, the spelling etc. Also, in most high schools around the country introduce lessons to teach foreign lagnuages, so for those who doesn't know how to speak or read or understand the language itself, that person will need a teacher/lecturer to teach them to kick start the basic knowledge.

i dont get the question... how can something be taught.. but not learnt? doesnt that defeat the purpose of teaching then? (if you cant learn..?)

Well my first interpretation was that you can't be taught something but you can learn something without being taught?
    Dunno...

well.. you could self learn? but wouldnt that constitute as self teach? haha lol.. so confusing

or .. as in you learn something from personal experience.. like listening to people talk to each other in another language and u pick up phrases and words along the way?

u cant learn by yourself ,you dont know which is correct~you must have a person tells you which is correct

^ I guess that could be the basis of your argument.. cause without someone to teach you how to pronouce stuff preoperly, you could be learning the wrong things by yourself.

I guess that's what makes learning a language different to learning. say maths or a science.
