My parents are looking for an used car for under 6k USD. Prefer to be 2002 or newer. right now, around 6k, I think we can get a 2003+ Honda Accord, 2001+ Honda Civic, 99+ BMW 3 series, 2000+ VW GTI.. and so on..
Where have you searched so far? Have you researched online or look in the classified section in the papers? My neighbor found a really good deal online. The guy that sold his car had too many tickets and got his drivers license revoked. To get a really good price, you should find a seller that is really motivated to sell his/her car.
We're looking at newspaper+classified+online (craigslist) The cheap good cars are usually gone instantly, found a 2004 Mazda 3 for 4k.. but sold on Saturday morning. We're looking for a family car or a small car, basically for work. Here's the list my parents are planning to replace their cars with: 1999 Honda Accord EX V6 -> Acura TL, BMW 3 series, Nissan Altima, or others with same fuel economy or better. 1998 Acura Integra -> VW GTI, another Acura Integra (better and newer of course), Honda Civic, or any others around the same level. 1996 Honda Civic EX -> same list as the Integra.. Planning to replace most of our cars for better ones, forking out a few grand.
why not just keep the 99 accord and sell the 98 integra, then go buy a 2005ish Acura TL to be your main vehicle.... doesn't make sense to me. Even if you're using the 99 accord as a trade in, the value you get from the dealership isn't going to be worth giving up a perfectly usable family vehicle. Sell the 98 integra instead even if you get less cash up front. And if you're looking for a small vehicle under 6K with good gas savings, get an old impreza/forester/outback. If i was buying used on a budget, Subaru would be one of the first things i'd look at.
Come to think of it.. for around 6500 you could probably find a nice used Lexus SC400, potentially even an old GS. That's probably the route i'd go on a budget. lol personally i'm hoping my IS250 gets totalled within the next year and I get my over-valued 42,000 dollar payout so i can go buy a 2007 LS460, i wanna roll baller style.
Well, if I was looking for Lexus, I'm looking for the IS300... xD We're planning to basically replace all of our vehicles with a newer used one.
lol you won't find an IS300 for 6000... not unless it was a previous total loss and has huge milage... If you want an IS300 you're gonna haveta come up with atleast 10 thousand for a good one.
meh.. it's around 7k in bay area... I'm still looking for a car xD can't find any good one on craigslist
in before kontra: stay away from the VW MK4. They are horrible. also, since you're in Cali, it never snows so a 4WD is useless. I live up there with weeks well below freezing temp. and I have no trouble getting out of snow banks, driving in snow storms etc. The worst you'll see is torrential rain lol. That being said, you can also forget the Subaru. It's another car that uses quite a lot more fuel but does the same job. The Mazda 3, is not bad but the steel use is quite cheap and many many of them started to rust from under so be careful with that. The E46 3 series at 7k is probably a lower trim 320i or 323i, they're painful slow and feels really cheap. My opinion: -sell all 3 cars. -get: -- Third gen TL ( 04-08) -- DC2 GSR -- mod it.
sell all 3 and only buy 2 back? How is my parents going to work and me going to school..? Acura Integra GSR is a no for sure since it's a manual which my dad won't be paying for a manual acura for sure. Acura TL is 14k.. i think my dad would rather pay for a new 2010 Honda Civic or something else instead.
lulz. more like something that's been in an accident about 45 times. idea: sell all 3 and get 3 Hyundai Accents. They're cheap, reliable, and fun to drive if you have imagination. one hatchback for you, a 4 door for your dad and another for your mom.
i can't believe this guy is QQing over only having two cars lol my household has 2 cars, i have to work around driving my brother to school, and then my mom to work and then i go to work/school. my daily drive to school is about 120km round trip in addition to picking up and dropping off my family, and you're crying a river about not having a car for yourself XD god damn it im jealous. you get a choice of getting a car for yourself, and a car that you want, and don't have to drive your family around. i don't understand why you're complaining =\
Seems like my dad might possibly be thinking about getting a new Nissan Versa or Cube... no clue yet.. won't be mine for a few months though o.o.. my mom says she'll be the first one driving it ><
I decided to not post in this thread but I saw this and lol. Yeah, the MKIV's were terrible. Most of them caught on fire. Thankfully, VW seemed to have cleaned up their act with the MKV. However, I did get an extension on the warranty for the DSG transmission on my car. Should I be worried? Lol.
i'd stay away from the BMW 3-series... BMW itself is known for having engine problems past 80,000 miles
