i'm not going crazy over it, just being continuously astounded at the pricing of apple. server grade and desktop grade cpu are not that far apart, now-a-days, there isn't much more these processors can do the comparisons in performance between an i7 vs Xeon. the ECC is an expensive luxury that mostly isn't needed in this computer for starters, as the mac pro isn't marketing as a server computer, but for a power user. <_< w/e
meh this is nothing. My bro is going to Berklee school of music in Boston over the summer and they are making him buy a 15" Macbook pro directly from the school. Total cost? $2999. Fucking ridiculous. I can spec the same macbook for 1500... they are overcharging by over a grand. Also, they are using last gen-macbook pros, which also pisses me off. I can't believe my parents are listening to my brother and sending him to this school; its the biggest waste of money i've ever heard of. 28K a year for a music degree over 4 years is beyond retarded. I've been looking into MBA programs over the last couple months and to get a grad degree in canada I can look to spend under 25K a year for tuition, unless I end up going to a school like McGill, where its more like 60... but i sincerely doubt i'll pull off a GMAT score around 700 to secure entry. anyway I digress. Xeon Processors = awesome (absolutely no use for me... but i'd love a system like that)
When I was pricing out the quad core rig, I was deciding between the Q6600 and the Xeon X3220. Both were similar in specs and price. Thinking back to it, I'm kind of regret not going Xeon. You should also read what noasian said again, 500 bucks for 2 of those suckers.
O_O are you sure... i looked it up on ze internetz and it priced it as per.... if it were for a pair, i'd shit brix because i should have gotten that pair instead.
I'm not sure what the current gen Xeons go for but when I was in the market for the Q6600, the similar Xeon was pretty much the same price.
^ There shouldn't be, the only other features this CPU has is the ECC really... everything else is just what higher end CPU's normally do. I highly doubt the ECC would slow down the gaming experience since it is built in and communicates as fast as it clocks.
the 'apple' logo is a around 1-2k in premium. the r&d cost that goes in designing the perfect apple logo shape. the material used on the apple logo is expensive
