  1. it's slow cuz u know its working hard in the backround -rotfl seriously though kaspersky is one of the best antivirus software, if not get nod32 at least not some freeware scanner.

Your computer must suck or you're doing something wrong.

my laptop doesn't suck that bad...
laptop was recently reformatted to win7 so hardly got any files or anything on it, and hardly been on any random websites so i dont see why it was freezing up.. but then could it be coz it was a trial version tho?
Avast ran fine for me after I got rid of Kaspersky..

i think kaspersky should be very good but i have never tried it. i use eset cos it's prob just as good but is a lot less on system resources. though i may skip to kaspersky sometime.

If you want to be really an@l, then use a sandbox software like DefenseWall and laugh at all the malware. Even if you encounter a day-0 threat it won't be able to infect your system. I use that on my laptop in combination with Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP). Only works on 32-bit systems though.

think SEP is part of Norton as I remember it so well that when I signed up to Norton, I kept having emails about the SEPs

As far as I know, computer viruses do not discriminate :) ... just like normal viruses btw. So use whatever you think is best.

Uhhh, you mean buy :) But if you want backups, then check the usual places. I primarily use Usenet (Newsgroup Binaries).

These are the main sandboxes (aka HIPS) that I know of:
    DefenseWall - http://www.softsphere.com
    Sandboxie - http://www.sandboxie.com
    GeSWall - http://www.gentlesecurity.com

One disadvantage with DefenseWall is that you will have to disable it to install updates from your Internet browser or any other untrusted program. Anyway, I suggest you Google and read carefully if you decide to use any of these sandboxes. For me it's ideal, I can give anyone my laptop (e.g. wifey) and I can be sure that they will not be able (or at least have a damn hard time) to infect my PC since all untrusted programs are running in a sandbox.

For those exceptions where one manages to go through the sandbox one way or the other, then you have your normal AntiVirus. In my case I use SEP since it's lightwight and does it's job (at least for my PCs), but this is a business product opposed to a consumer product. For more info see http://www.symantec.com/business/products/family.jsp?familyid=endpointsecurity .

Hmmm, I prefer apple juice ... and anyway, I wouldn't know where you would connect all the peripherals to an apple. Do you need to remove the skin first to get to the plugs or what ?
