hi there i was wondering if any of u guys can give me an advice on what to do! i got a western digital 500 gb external HD and it doesn't show up on my computers and i tried changing the usb cable and doesn't seem to work and i was wondering what else can i do? the hd is still running just fine and i think the connector is no good! if i remove the enclosure from the hd can i still extract the files from the hd?
click on start, right click on 'computer', go to 'manage', select 'disk management' find your device and format it if you need to, assign a letter if you need to do that. either way it should show up there.
must be something with the connection if it shows up without the enclosure. my friend's external has a dodgy connection and sometimes it doesn't work. it is a right pain.
i have tried that and it doesn't work or show up for the computer and i was wondering if i remove the enclosure will i be able to get my files back?
do you have NVIDIA USB Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI) chipset? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976972
i dont think that's the case here for the usb controller interface. but i will give it a shot to see if that will work. but my questions is that is if i remove the hd from the enclosure am i still be able to savage the data inside of the hd?
i wonder if he's referring to WD Passport/Essential/Elements/etc. If that's the case, i'm not sure if you can open the external casing (never done it before). It'll be interesting.
well any way danxs for ur advice i found out that it was a bad power board that was on the external any way i converter it into a internal hd for the sake of it
