I have used McAfee and Norton and I find that Norton is the better one of the two. There are freeware versions out there but I haven't tried them.

I read from somewhere about tests done to some antivirus products sold in market currently. It came up that Symantec, Kaspersky and MSE are the first rate. The test was based on the ability of the antivirus to "kill" the infecting virus and later on to take care of its leftovers. Anyway, out of these three, I prefer MSE. First of all, because its totally free, giving you have to have an activated Windows. And secondly, it's very light and the speed is also awesome.
You can download the file here http://filehippo.com/download_security_essentials_vista/... You can choose appropriate version according to your windows.
give it a try, you will not regret it.... :)

for paid ones I would buy Kaspersky

Free ones I would use either avira or microsoft essentials (if your windows is legit)

I'm using Nod32 but it didn't remove random popups from IE when i use Opera. ><

  13. im a long time nodder and i had no idea it was responsible for popups, i though that was down to popup software or your browser.

avast has a very odd looking interface, is one downside... seems to work ok, but seems a little slow too, but is ok, since it's free

Visit katz.cd to get any full version of the anti-virus software. I do the same. I am using AVG, Spybot, and Ccleaner.
