ok hello, im gona have to buy win7 now cus my pc is turning off every 2 hours with my expired win7RC >.< Should i go 64bit or stay with 32bit, is everything still compatible with 64bit, does 64 bit have any disadvantages to 32 bit etc etc, i only got 4 gig RAM seeing that i was 32 bit, is that enough to run nicely on 64 bit?
4GB is enough to run x64, for the common user i would say stick with 32-bit (aka x86) most programs are built to run better on x86 and a majority of the programs you come across will be installed in you x86 folder anyways... have not heard of many programs with only x64 exclusive.... but, you have 4 gigs of ram..... not going x64 would be a total waste of the other 1.3GBs of your ram... seeing as x86 only sees like 2.73GBs..... or something like that.... x64 isn't bad at all, and i went that route, but it seems common programs like rocketdock and some sidebar gadgets are temperamental.........
To add to that: Get yourself up to date on the difference between 64bit and 32bit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/...and-64-bit-Windows-frequently-asked-questions There is a bit more to it than just the added RAM available. Knoc
My laptop is 64 bit and I have yet to encounter any problem. Anyways, with ram being so cheap it seems only appropriate to effectively use it all.
pshh 32. bigger number is always better and cooler >=) lol jk yea, my machine uses 64 bit, and I have yet to encounter any problems. Despite the fact that 64-bit Win 7 does come with a 32-bit compatibility, there will be some programs that will not work, IE: my stupid VPN software for work >=( however, the XP virtual machine that comes with Win 7 is a 32-bit virtual machine, should you need a 32-bit XP. On a side note, i regret installing Win 7 Pro on my I7 now......... I SHOULD HAVE INSTALLED THE WINDOWS SERVER 2008 R2!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH sigh... oh well.........
with 64-bit u can add endless ram to it, however applications like BitComet for me will work but in occassional times it will freeze the app and i will have to restart the PC to fix it...and when you have 32-bit apps, it will be installed under the Program Files (x86) folder but will run under 64-bit OS...whereas my BC will run smoothly without any freezing issues under 32-bit W7
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 64-bit or nothing >.> I've encountered minimal problems with 64-bit OSs. I think Win7 was well developed in terms of compatibility with 32-bit programs, offering alternatives to installing 32-bit software. in the end, if the 32-bit software STILL doesn't work, find a different software. IE if 32-bit Bitcomet doesn't work, and there isn't a 64-bit version, go for uTorrent. Been using that and it works wonderfully.
do people still use bitcommet, that program is so bloated now, used to be awesome back in the day, but yeah uTorrent all the way now. ok ill look into getting 64bit
I use BitComet on Win7 64-bit without any problems, so yes ... people still use BitComet All my 32-bit programs work just fine and I also have 4GB of RAM. Win 32-bit can address 4GB or RAM, but the problem is that it also has to map your video card memory etc. in the same address space. With 64-bit you do not have this problem since it can remap the video card memory above this 4GB address space.
u can add 4GB ram yes but windows will not show up as 4GB as you mentioned as if you have 8GB then i won't show up as 8GB
Sheesh, my computer is turning off every 2 hours lol cus my RC is expired, reminds me, i better restart it now before it restarts itself cus it doesnt save anything
^ yup..... MG remember to wipe your hard drives clean..... if you can get darik's boot and nuke up and going... which is freeware btw.. go for the DoD short lol.... i hope you don't got TB's XD take days!!! or just go with the quick erase...
