It something that cause the pedal to be sticky I'm sure if you google it, you'll find lots of info I don't really blame them, shit happens and they acknowledge the problem and that is the most important part They didn't even accept the winning award for greenest car (Prius) because they believe their car was faulty and should not accept it
the fault does not lie solely on toyota, but though a manufacturing company they went through. Toyota went through two different companies and supposedly one of the manufactures messed up
They made some very boring to (add verb: look, drive, sit, etc) cars. Now that it's boring and unreliable, that's the problem. Let me show you how they will fix it: No joke. Stay away from Toyota.
not solely but must have the responsibility for it, they choose the manufacturers, didn't do enough quality testing etc...if you say they aren't responsible, thats not right...lol there is a huge meeting saying that toyota's electronic board has issues instead, but toyota is backing it up saying nothing is wrong, that issue is still under investigation... Honda also has issues with the air bags too, 1 million cars are recalled as well as another car company which i forgot (it was in chinese newspaper)
At least they're recalling back their cars rather than pretend they dont know anything, having some shit happened and gets sued.
they cannot pretend now because it is widely recall and complains were made to the safety organizations
When mass production comes into play, all the material they need to build it might not be sufficent and they find other ways to substitute so they can meet the deadline, in this case senario they overlook the quality for the quantity
I think every brand has had some issues in the past. To be honest, would I buy Toyota again in the future...most probably. We had a lot of good luck with Toyota in the past, they were quality cars that lasted a long time. Granted that was pre-electronic times. I'm currently driving a Nissan Murano. I took a gamble when I bought it because our last 3 Nissan (granted bought within a year of each other) all had electrical issues (check engine light kept showing up even tho there's nothing wrong), but there's nothing wrong my car at all. So, I'm ok with companies having issues as long as they fix it. But then again, my murano is only 3 years old so the next time I need a new car, hopefully toyota will resolve all their issues.
Problem was known in 2008. They did cover it up. They did a half ass job making the cars and a half ass job covering it up.
The problem here is that Toyota initially didn't even acknowledge that they had a problem. Then, finally admitting that there is a problem, they downplayed it by saying that it was a minor mechanical (hence easily fixable) problem. Bullshit, it's not a minor problem. Let's review what they did. First they didn't acknowledge it, and this went on for several years. When so many crashes happened, to the point that the mounting accidents could no longer be ignored, they then said it was because the gas pedals were getting caught in the floor mats, and they changed the mats on several thousand vehicles. Internal Toyota documents that was brought out before the US senate investigations, had gloated about how much money they were able to save by limiting their recall to just floor mats instead of entire vehicles. Then, even after changing the floor mats, when people kept crashing and dying resulted in further public outcry, they said, "Wait a minute; it wasn't the floor mats after all. It was really a mechanical mechanism within the gas pedal that caused it to stick in an open position." That is, the problem instead was with the gas pedal, and not the floor mats like they first said. So they then recalled millions of cars to replace gas pedals. But guess what? Many people who were victims of the unintended acceleration phenomena stated that they were not even pressing on the gas pedal at all, that their car suddenly took off by itself. This dramatically illustrates that the problem is not a "sticky" gas pedal as Toyota claims, but a problem with the electronics of the vehicle, which Toyota continues to deny. In essence, many critics now claim that Toyota is really stonewalling because they frankly do not know what the problem is; ie. they haven't yet been able to identify the source. Thus, Toyota really has no way to solve the sudden acceleration problem. Additionally, there is another problem with brakes that have been identified in Toyota Prius vehicles, where the brakes seem to hesitate when the vehicle is being driven over rough or uneven surfaces. The Toyotas in Japan did not have this problem except for maybe the prius. I'm sure other car manufacturers will soon unveil their recalls since that pedal company doesnt only supply toyota.
