Yesterday, I just got Final Fantasy XIII for the PS3. Was playing it for a while then suddenly during one of the cut scenes it freezes Tried to quit but it wouldn't let me, had to reset the PS3 and then once it had booted up , It couldn't recognise any PS3 game disc. I think the Laser disc reader on the PS3 might have broken..... One thing I have learn't from this: Never play Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3 phat
1st, you think the fat PS3 is 'Pretty Hot And Tempting'? hmm, to each his own... oh what happened sux btw, maybe youll need to replace the drive? should be cheap on ebay, or maybe a fanboy will buy your ps3 off you and hang it on their wall as a lucky charm or whatever they do
The warranty on it has long gone, repairs need about £160. Instead I am planning on selling the phat as faulty and maybe getting a ps3 slim
Back up your data. Now. Your fat PS3 might not have failed catastrophically like mine but it's failing. Back up your data and be prepared to replace it.
The one on the left Yeah, was really.. really... depressing having FFXIII right in front of my eyes but not being able to play it. Too late, have tried the reformat trick to see if it solved the problem..... Not everyone might have this problem. Out of 10 ps3 only 9 seem to have the problem.
wasn't there a patch for freezing issues with ff? I'm thinking the drive might be faulty.. don't know how much a replacement drive is.. but if I think you might be able to do the repair yourself.
perhaps leave it for a few days and then try again. hmm... i wonder whether it's the laser dying in the ps3 or whether the game caused the ps3 die. from what u say it's the game. maybe the game is highly demanding in terms of space and therefore requires the laser to keep reading the discs because there are large parts to load for a long time and maybe that has caused the laser to die. but that does seem rather strange still. u would assume that sony would create a ps3 that would be able to play the more demanding games considering its huge capability and yet none of the games even fully use the machines capability yet.
Tried that, didnt work. I thought it was to do with the laser too, because if it was the hard drive then I wouldnt be able to access my saves. And yes, I did assume at the beginning that it what sony made should be able to handle it. Also maybe the cooling system wasnt as effective on the system which has maybe caused the laser to over heat. No patch was released, Had the latest patch updated as well. I dont thinkit was the drive otherwise there would be problems starting up the ps3. Lucky for some. Consider yourself the 1/10 again lucky with a good working ps3.
i mean the disc drive not the hdd.. but i think i heard each drive is associated with their ps3. maybe repair the lens?
I had thought about that, but I don't know how to fix it myself and getting sony to do it will set me back £150
Did you upgrade your firmware to latest one? I had this problem too just 3 months of play (40gb version) a year ago luckily got a replacement and no problems since. A blog from sony stated it was a phat file existed that corrupted the system on a certain firmware version. New technology is cocking up these days with companies rushing out new features that causes more problems that they can't handle......... :(
