Aaarrgghh!! I stupidly forgot to take my Ipod out of my pocket and it ended in the washing machine!! Tried to switch is on but I see nothing. So I connected the USB from my Ipod to my laptop - still nothing and also tried my Ipod charger and nothing seems to be working!!

Anyone else had this problem and tried to fix it?

I googled up and it seems the rice method seemed to work for most people.
I have not tired this, but I'll give it a shot and see how it goes.
How long should I leave my Ipod in a dry rice packet in for? If I was to do this method.

    Info:
    Ipod Nano 8GB Orange
    Happened yesterday
    Not switching on
Hear a noise when shaking it

  2. Water has certainly gotten into the Ipod and short circuited everything.

The rice method doesn't really do anything (as far as electronics are concerned). By leaving it in the dry rice packet, all it does it take the moisture out of the device. However, once water has damaged the electronics, it doesn't matter how long you leave it in the rice package, it's dead.

I'm sorry to say, I highly doubt any device can withstand water damage.

i think it might've short circuited as well. i heard you can do the rice method if u do it before u try to turn it on again. so dry it before u try to turn it on but unfortunately that's too late now

I think the rice method only works for the more minor cases...

As long as the device wasn't on when it was being washed, there's no chance of a short circuit. DO NOT power it on until all of the water is dried.

  6. well, it's water, so if somehow it finds its way to the battery, and touches the contacts.. wouldn't it short?

It should be okay still. When the device is off, there's no flow of power so it'll be fine. Ideally, she should take the battery out but with the iPod, she can't. So the best thing to do is just let it dry for a few days.

Now if it were salt water, she'd be in deeper shit since salt oxidizes the metal. In that case, she would have to crack open the iPod and rinse or even soak the iPod in rubbing alcohol.

  8. as everyone has stated, let the device dry for a couple of days, you may have jumped the gun by trying to powering it so quickly...... i think i saved an ipod by using a blow dryer once, but that could have just been something else..... not entirely sure LOL

    Thanks for advice!

......but if you guys read my 1st post. I actually ALREADY tried to switch it on..
I mean I had too right? To test if it works or not? lol
When my ipod was washing i'm pretty sure it was OFF! lol

But I'll still leave my ipod on the desk to "dry". How many days you reckon?
If that don't work.. then maybe I'll use a hair dryer too dry the ipod.
If both of these method don't work then I'll guess it has to go in the bin! :(

why are ppl not into checking the pockets of every shirt/pants before they wash?
probably because not used to living on their own? LOL
i still think using the hair drying NOW instead of later

another way is to keep in a container with silica gel packets, those take moisture from stuff
my experience was with my new canon 55-250mm IS lens newly bought for 3 months, was shooting the fireworks & lightning in the rain with no cover, so water was all over the lens (btw, that lens wasn't weather proof), but i disconnected the lens and body and let try in a cold room for about a week...it seems fine as it still works...

the other item is i have moisture got into my SE Phone from sweat, it short circuit the 8 key on the pad, i have tried to blow dry it with commercial hands dryer for 10 mins, and i got the 8 working back again....however after than, somehow it got moisture in in my pocket and that permanently damaged it

    Great news guys!

My ipod officially works!! But the only problem is my screen - can't see a thing! lol.
Unless I get a torch and point it towards the screen, i can see.

But apart from that - all working!
I just left the ipod on the desk for 4days and I switched it on, i could see the apple logo there.
So plugged usb to my laptop and it works! Also unplugged it, also works too!!

I was actaully going to buy another one, lucky I didn't!

It's probably the salt or some other mineral from your sweat that didn't evaporate when you dried it and started to oxidize the metal inside the device.
    Sweet!

yea as it's solid state memory then it shouldn't be affected by water. however, if it was on while in the wash then it could have short circuited. but looks like u have it working which is good to know. but if the screen doesn't work, i guess that the component for the screen may have been damaged by the water.

Again, a long as it wasn't on, there's no way it could have shorted. How can something short out when there's no power running through it?

As for the screen, I can see it if the light was really bright and a torch pointing at it.
But other than that.. I can't really see the screen.
Ah well ~ as long as it works and plays music. Thats fine! :)

if you hadn't tried to turn it on it would definitly be an option because if your machine is dry and then turn it on it has a chance that it will still works....

but now you tried it already...l.
