sorry your ps3 broke..do you probably own the 40gb ps3 bought with spiderman bluray bundle? That is what i have and its a known problem on the 40gb that the cd drive fails which happened to me while playing Call of duty..you need to fix it, on ebay you can pick one up for maybe 50 bucks..there is two lens that you can get, one that comes with the base and whole assembly and the other is just the lens that you need..you can just buy the lens, dont need the whole assembly..here is the same exact video i follow to fix mines: http://www.youtube.com/user/Shinnosuki#p/f/2/37f-Fk1-SsU also you gotta watch out when you buy the kes-400aaa some are cheap china made while some are higher quality..if you want the lens that i got, i've purchased it on ebay from exactly this guy: http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-PS3-pl...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19ba3365b1 its very easy the hardest part is if you dont have a t6 torx to open the security screw, you can jam a flat head small enough to fit into it and still loosen it, thats what i did! good luck!
They got sued recently because of the issue you had, or so I heard on a certain news site. Mines can play it fine = / Don't mean to rub it in -_-; The best you can do is take it up with Sony and get yourself a new ps3 with benefits or something. Or you can try and fix it yourself @_@ Might void the warranty tho.
well i had the problem too with the disc reader with the phat ps3 too and it was out of warranty and fixing at the stores costed me 200 dollars and sending it to sony would be 170 something. so i was like since i got this ps3 for free might as well as take it apart and fix it myself and it was pretty simple if u follow the guide on how to take it apart. replacing the disc drive is around 100 something on ebay if u buy the right one. but replacing the eye is cheaper and when i took apart the broken disc drive it seem pretty ez to replace the laser eye thing. and as of now my ps3 is working dandy well and playing all my games.
