the general census is that it will give you 3 and some change. so keep the 4 in there. any and all available ram is good.
so to clarify, you two 4x1gb sticks? if you are not worried about matching the chanels and getting the best performance from your memory, then just keep them in there.
it is matched.. one set of rams with a certain color.. right? isn't that how it works. I guess there's not much to do.. hopefully i'll be able to put together a better one in the future..
Alright So I just thought about it.. all I really need is a NEW CASE! it just hit me, even though I'm not gonna build whole new comp. yet.. I can just start out with a case and swap things lil by lil. So first off whats a good case? I'm not gonna run servers or anything. So something good enough for home use and got the open sides so I can throw some crazy lights on it, or if it came with lights even better. Nothing too big, don't want a huge case thats gonna take up a lot of room and heavy as hell to carry. I only need like what 6 or 7 drive bays to throw in hdd and dvd-drives.. Think I might upgrade my motherboard later on so I can sli my video card. but that'll be later on..
how about something like this Amazon.com: Cooler Master CM 690 II Advance ATX Mid-Tower Case (RC-692-KKN2): Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/518iq1ZLclL.@@AMEPARAM@@518iq1ZLclL or maybe.. Amazon.com: Cooler Master RC-922M-KKN1-GP HAF 922M ATX Mid Tower Case (Black): Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Yt21FgveL.@@AMEPARAM@@51Yt21FgveL but looks kinda funky.. Mid-tower should be good size right?
need to find myself a new graphics card -_______- any recommendations between 100-200 bucks? preferably nvidia card?
^ Seconded. Does anyone know of a Nvidia equivalent to the HD 5770? I've been hearing some horrible things about their drivers...
HD 5770 is equivalent to GTX 260. People are recommending HD 5770 over GTX 260 due to the cost and no DX 11 support from Nvidia.
i'm running the 5770 with no problems with a core i7, 64-bit windows 7 OS..... and Ecko: I like the first one of the two.... less aggressive.....
yea.. I like the first case too.. but it's same price and the 2nd one seems to have more features.. =/. How good are cool master cases? so I have a 8800gt oc edition.. whats the next cheap card I can get to be able to sli with it? Thinking of just upgrading to a better card, but then don't want the 8800 to go to waste.
I did an SLI setup with the 8800GTS a while back and there was a small bump in performance but I think you're better off getting a better card and selling the old one.
I've heard that it has something to do with people's monitors. But like rth said, the 5770 is just better bang for buck and dx11 .
yea but it's so old, I don't even think it'll be worth anything... =/ yea.. if I got gtx 260.. I wouldn't need to sli.. it's already way more powerful than 8800..
True, but you might actually want to hold off til the 4xx series drop in price a little before considering getting the GTX 260. ATI so far has the best price for the card which is HD 5770, pretty much comparable to GTX 260.
Maybe in the US the HD 5770 is $100-$160. Up here, I'm looking at prices from $140-$190 before tax...
