Miss Asia 2010 to discludes Filipino pageants

Miss Asia Beauty Pageant 2010 will be held in November. This year restores the old 2007 system, allowing international Chinese to participate. After the Philippines tragedy, the organizers decided through yesterday's meeting that they will not invite Filipino pageants to participate in this year's contest. This is to avoid further deepening the ill feeling between Hong Kong and the Philippines. Miss Asia responsible person (Yip Ka bo) also mentioned that she is worried about the Filipino pageants will be excluded if they come to HK and will affect the contest results.

ATV PR spokesperson confirmed the news to the media through a phone call: "In order to avoid humiliation to the Filipino pageants, we have decided not to invite them to HK to participate in the contest. (Abusing power?) The tragedy is still fresh to the people of Hong Kong, to avoid embarrassment, this is the best solution. (Discriminate Filipinos?) Not discriminating, we are just considerate towards the pageants' feelings, we don't want them to get hurt."

TVB director of foreign affairs (Tsang Sing Ming) expressed that Miss Chinese International Pageant 2010 will have special treatment for the Filipino pageants. He said: "The contest will be held in Tianjin in November. This year will follow the old traditions, will have international contestants participate. Manila will represent Miss Chinese International, so not worried about having problems. Hong Kong audience are rational, will not direct their dissatisfaction for the Filipino police onto the Filipino pageants. And not to mention, the pageant is of Chinese descent."

i dunno if this is right or wrong. But in my opinion, it's wrong. The hatred towards this catastrophe is the filipino gov't and not the citizens. Hating on the filipino citizens r just ignorance.

For a fact this is very wrong. They're saying that they uninvited the Filipino contingent in order to spare and protect them from potential ridicule? Bull. This is just another shallow insult directed against the Filipino people. By publicly singling out and debasing the Filipino contestants, the HK parent pageant is appealing to the lowest from its audience; that of collectively blaming the Filipino people as a whole for the recent actions of two idiots (one the gunman, who didn't know any better; and the second, the police commander, who should have). Hong Kong's people, even through their pain, are certainly smart enough to know the difference and don't need a "beauty" pageant for women to reinforce the most ugly feelings of man.

So what, should Filipinos then start posting pics of Chinese or HK people doing stupid senseless things in response? Your's is exactly the attitude that creates greater divides between people. I have relatives from the Philippines and they're decidedly aghast at what happened.

What you're doing is call Filipino Bashing; taking the bad examples of a few to justify your broad brush denigration of an entire people.

This takes us couple of hundred years backward. WTF. BTW from those pictures its just a group of people doesn't mean they should blame it on the entire filipino race. So no they don't deserve that.

Unfortunately, that's just how the way things are.

I'm not exactly bashing Filipino people in general, but I don't see a reason to keep them in this pageant for a handful or less of snotty rich Filipino girls with connections. It's not that big of a deal. Plus, I would prefer not to look at transexuals on stage.

The hostage incident is still very fresh and the entire Filipino police force looks to be pretty incompetent. And there's probably more pictures of senseless Filipino natives taking pictures just like that on the crime scene.

And now they're not gonna be in this little pageant. U MAD?

I mean, you put the Fillo contestant in, the viewers will think of the Hostage event, then TVB will receive another 6billion complaints.

You know how emotional/sensitive HK viewers get.

This decision by ATV does not help the situation at all - if they are serious about it, they should not try to magnify the situation by creating another talking point by barring Filipino contestants...this is another PR stunt to generate more talking points. A very poor decision!
