You're not exactly bashing the Filipino people in general? I differ with you on that. An example; suppose a US university, say... Harvard, refuses to consider for admission students from China because of the Tainted Milk scandal, citing that "those people" really are inhuman? Would that be China bashing? Of course it would because one event has nothing to do with the other. You're taking the actions of a few and using it as justification to unfairly malign an entire people. As for senseless Filipino natives taking pictures at crime scenes, you should see what happens in accident scenes in the PRC. They're all busy taking pictures of the accident, and the only ones who ever offer to help the victims are usually foreigners. My point is, there are senseless people the world over; some are heading up that pageant in HK, and some seem to be even right here in this forum. Me being mad? No, but rather disappointed that my fellow HK'ers can't seem to take the high road, instead pandering to the lowest form of parochialism, and to do it in such a tangential fashion. It bespeaks volumes of their motivations. And as for snotty Filipino rich girls? That's snotty Chinese - Filipino rich girls; if you hadn't realized it, contests like these are drawn from the Chinese diaspora world wide, and had given us stars like Fala Chen and Linda Chung. Though some are well off, most are not and all work hard to compete in these pageants. In essence, what pageant officials is doing is denying Chinese girls their chance to compete solely because they happen to live in the Philippines. Additionally, your reference to Hong Kong as a "country" is telling. It glaringly illustrates a shallow grasp and awareness of our geopolitical surroundings; this lack of knowledge clearly undermines one's ideas as put forth regarding international affairs. Recalling the oft mentioned gaffe by US politician Sarah Palin (who had assumed Africa to be country and had referred to it as such); such errors easily points to those out of their depth. Moreover, your feeling about Filipinos is also clouded by your mistaken assign of transsexualism as a feature of their culture; one really begins to wonder the basis from which your ideas are drawn. As it is, your opinion appears to rely on a foundation of "facts" that can hardly withstand even the most cursory of academic scrutiny. My suggestion to you would be to first do your homework before interjecting baseless opinions into these discussions, or else they will continue to remain outside your realm. "U Mad?" No, U?
And that gives you immense satisfaction, doesn't it? Res ipsa loquitur. Obviously, the calculus that you're using to gain emotional succor is skewed. Pageant inclusion or not, in the final analysis, we're still left with eight dead Hong Kong Chinese. All the name calling and vilification of entire populations doesn't change a damned thing.
Oh hell yeah, I'm so satisfied!! -innocentTheir country's public image just ain't good right now. uke: It would be stupid as fuck to let them participate in anything associated with Hong Kong on a big public scale like this. It doesn't matter if you're taking the moral high ground on this topic, the medias just not gonna ease off on this too soon.
exactly, things like this is just plain wrong, i dont care if the whole China is against it, Filipinos should be allowed in this pageant whoever complains that they should not are ignorant and retarded PERIOD... yeh so what, few people decided to take pictures, ok maybe these people are ignorant as well, but you can't punish the whole country because of this incident and a few people taking pictures I'm from HK and even I think this is some bullshit that the people in HK are doing
Last year ago, this event was in the news: http://un.fmprc.gov.cn/eng/wjb/zwjg/zwbd/t567754.htm It highlighted the contributions that Chinese Filipinos (like Chinese from around the world) had poured into China after the Sichuan earthquake, and the thanks that were given by the Chinese government and people. These are the same community of people that HK pageant officials are now slapping in the face, and really over something that they themselves had no control. Quite frankly they were as humiliated and angry about the events (both the crisis and the aftermath) themselves. It isn't so much that people who would allow the Filipino contingent to participate is taking any moral high ground, but rather, that people who would disallow them are stooping to amoral lows. In other news, ethnic Filipino workers in HK fear backlash: http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Asia/Story/STIStory_570744.html
the incident about the 2 Filipino workers was misinform, one quit cause she had to take care of her child and the other one was fired cause she wasn't doing her job. Of course there are others that might receive some backlashes but some medias are just making up stories. Miss Asia is from ATV, not TVB..if I'm correct. I think the show is more for Chinese descendants from foreign countries so it'll be more like Chinese Filipino. I don't think it's right or smart to make that kind of decision to not include her in the contest, even if their are people who'll be hating on the Filipino contestant, most people wouldn't. It's not her fault. The show would receive more backlash from it.
