The man should lose his license if he cannot abide by its parameters; that is generally most modern places nowadays have written codes of professional conduct mandated as a part of the license process. If the professional discriminates because of sexual orientation, he usually runs afoul of ethics rules. Even though this happen in the UK, I suspect that profession rules there are pretty much the same as in the US.
Doctors are obligated to treat all patients regardless of his age, sex, and race .. if not, then shouldn't practice .. then again, regarding private practice, docs do have a right to turn patients away unless it's emergency; not insult or harass them in any way.
