is it possible to split the USB on my External HDD to my PC and my TV? can i run it on both at the same time?
I think your right, if im going to have to buy the NAS thing i may as well just buy another HDD and use that for the TV and leave my current one for my PC.
The Network storage is great since you can share the files between all the computers that connect to your network. The linksys router i got has a port for various applications and one would be to use network storage
your router is not a normal router, its a crazy router, everything is for me too, not other PC's, more below Naa, i got my own flat now so i have learnt the cost of electricity.. im not running my TV and PC at the same time. basically like most tvs nowadays they have usb ports so you can watch movies off your HDD or mem stick so i just wanted to connect a cheap hdd to the TV for that reason. ATM i got my 2gig stick connected to the TV :( but i need more space.
should make a low power pc for a file server and get a mini pc or laptop and stream it directly onto tv at least that way u can stream it to multiple tvs if u want i'm still in the process of doing this - only that i'm not at home and nothings progressing =/
My Network Attached Storage consumes about 25Watts in Access mode and 10Watt in Hibernation Mode (Synology DS211j). I think thats far less than a bulb in your house^^
If it's possible to hook the external hd to 2 devices U will have streaming issue when u use both of them at once
I don't believe it's possible at all. As others have said, a NAS or HTPC is probably your best option.
I cant even remember why i asked this. must have been before i found the external HDD im using on my TV now and was gona attempt to split the one connect to my PC.
