Ouch hahaha Kontra your system is so nice with all the watercooling, but its performance is so low. I'm sure your processor will be fine once OC'd to 4ghz, but yeah... that 280 is definitely out of date now. In Far Cry 2 an overclocked 560ti gets about 97 fps... the 280 gets about 50. I wouldn't upgrade now though... GTX600 "Kepler" series cards are expected out in Q4 2011. Kepler is supposed to be twice as fast as the 500 fermi series.
I still can't believe with all the OC, I can't even catch up to kont .. when it changes (1 - 26), my frames dropped down to really low every time it needs to change.. =/
Hey...It was awesome when it was new...Haha. Wow.. I just realized my rig will be 2 years old in August. Lol.
hahaha i'm thinking Dan went home and tried this on his computer and it failed so he didn't bother posting
^ Hahaha naw man... I downloaded the exec file on my macbook, I just got lazy to transfer it to my desktop... and a secret... I haven't used my desktop for a while.... shame.. what a waste of resource....
lol I don't use mine that much either if I'm totally honest... But come May and The Witcher 2.... fuuuuck, gonna be glued there.
This just shows how games are all GPU-bound now... =( Wish I spent more money on the graphics. So after getting my ass handed to me. I decided to give my PC some TLC. Stripped the GPU down and cleaned it and put on some fresh Shin Etsu. I'll post pics of my naked GPU in a bit.
From what I've read on the GTX280, the maximum overclock possible from that card is around 750 MHZ. However, I think you start losing stability around 700 mhz.
Use MSI Afterburner. Only clock up your main core like 50 mhz and focus on increasing the clock on your memory instead... upping the memory clock often makes a huge difference and it shouldn't kill your stability.
^ i tried with afterburner my default settings run at 850Mhz Core/1200Mhz Memory.... I tried increasing it to 900/1300 and ran this test and it hanged on me and had to hard reset
I've increased my GPU by like 125 MHz.. but probably not enough memory to back it up.. lol.. but if I try doing too much memory, it'll just crash...
So I've broken down and bought a new card. Planning on doing a cooling rebuild soon. I'll give the GTX 280 one more overclocked run and see how it goes. New card should arrive tomorrow. Fear, I WILL pwn your score!
lmao the intent of this thread was not to make people spend money on upgrading components However... I still look forward to seeing pictures of your new card and your new score!! hahahaha Also, you might have a hard time beating my card. With its current overclock I think my speeds are very close to a GTX580.
