I just want to know how to spell that in English and/or what is the origin of the word 'sa-larm'. I believe my dad was using it another day where other driver didn't give any proper signal while cutting in the front of us. My father yelled out loud, 'dill lei, sa-larm do hm bei'. Thinking of it, I just want to know where it came from.
Not quite sure about this, but i think it means something like salute. The person was changing lanes and was raising his hands like a salute so your dad would let him cut in, but your dad said "fuck you, i'm not going to let you in even if you salute."
Right; depending on regional dialectic inflections, you could be talking about anything. It would be helpful too, to note what dialect the speaker professes to.
Hahaha... Salam means salute. It's an arabic word but it's very commonly used in Malaysia, Singapore & Indonesia. It's a day-to-day word like for instance when we say 'Salam Sejahtera' it means Good day. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Salam
I think he was just cursing.... i think he meant to say: "Diu Lei say lun do em bei" Meaning: "Fuck You asshole, why don't you yield!" Bei Hoy gor Bei
hmm lol, i am not sure if my dad was using it correctly. it wasn't 'say lun' but it was sa-lum or something. I am pretty sure my dad wasn't referring to 'indicator/respect' or something. I heard on TVB, people use that term too
