That was exactly my point; winning or losing in a sports venue is irrelevant. Given that large gatherings of people, with personal restraint clouded by alcohol and good judgment diminished by social deindividuation, all a crowd needs is an anarchist or two, to provide that one spark for a peaceful public gathering to suddenly roil into what we now call the Vancouver Riots. So, who should have known all about this? I find it pretty damned self serving that Police Chief Chu is only able to blame "the anarchists" (note: the video of Chu's news conference is from an anarchist group whose views I do not subscribe to):

What I think that Police Chief Chu isn't aware of, is how important deindividuation is in this type of situation. While the anarchist may be analogous to a lit fuse, the crowd itself should be compared with a potentially explosive powder keg. Any simple spark can set them off, like we saw that it did. Again, it was because of a total lack of police control of that crowd, that the crowd was then able to so swiftly turn unruly with but a few prompts by instigators. Riot participants were then sucked in by the compelling emotions of the situation, and despite their active participation, are likely unable to fully understand or appreciate why they even became involved in the first place.

Deindividuation only occurs in very large crowds; by allowing the crowds to grow to such unmanageable size, Chu squandered away his greatest asset against looting and rioting; that is, a crowd's own sense of self control. For this lack of foresight, he cost the city of Vancouver untold misery and the cost of millions worth of property damage.

Speaking of Which, His Name is Jason Li. He was arrested at his highschool (he's 17) the following morning. Shamefully, he was also an air cadet but an ex-cadet who recognized that sent a letter to his CO demanding a reprimand. That's also not including the Asian Parents who are going to skin him for that.

Like the site. Some of these idiots were dumber than I thought, confessing on facebook

I hope they all get punished severely for their actions. Every one of these people honestly do not deserve to live in this country.
