MIDWAY, GA. — Police in Georgia have shut down a lemonade stand run by three girls trying to save up for a trip to a water park, saying they didn’t have a business license or the required permits.

Midway Police Chief Kelly Morningstar says police also didn’t know how the lemonade was made, who made it or what was in it.

The girls had been operating for one day when Morningstar and another officer cruised by.

The girls needed a business license, peddler’s permit and food permit to operate, even on residential property. The permits cost $50 a day or $180 per year.

One girl, 14-year-old Casity Dixon, says the three had to listen to police and shut down.

The girls are now doing chores and yard work to make money.

but really? they don't trust a kid's lemonade stand anymore? plus the police chief actually felt the need to make a statement?

  4. How is this any different than homemade pastry sales we had back in grade school? Sometimes the world makes me

Thought lemonade stand was a thing in the past & i'm sure people still do it today. But since it is a thing that happened in the past.. the police officer should be old enough to know what a lemonade stand is.

  6. oh officers have nothing better to do.....

Its not the officers fault, he is just doing his job, focus on the government that runs your country, they make the rules.

And in this day and age, maybe it is best that they know exactly what is in the lemonade, and if an old dude offers you Kool-Aid, dont drink it. [IMG]

unless the govt (city / state that are in dire need of $$) gets a piece of the action; no one from 5 years old to 95 years old are going to make any money. this is the world we live in ... unless of course, you are making 250k and up. then you'll get tax cuts.

tbh i once drove by and there was a lemonade stand at the corner of this residential neighbourhood intersection. by no means were they even at any busy street, (actually you could say it was in the middle of a residential neighbourhood) but just the shear sight of the unprofessionalism was enough to make me question the contents of their lemonade liquid.

a lot of people today are way more conscious about what's exactly in their food, and also know what those ingredients mean and do to the body. it may seem ridiculous that the police even bothered to make a move for something like this, but its an example to the general public that times have changed, you can't just follow the examples from charlie brown or w/e comics written decades ago and think its still alright to do the same in present day.

actually my biggest question is: how much were those kids fined? or was it just a warning and they were let off easy?

The silver lining in this is that at least the cops weren't demanding a cut, LOL... :naughty:

  14. maybe the cops knew of the bad tasting/tainted lemonade and was actually doing a deed on society by shutting it down

They got shut down for selling crack to Amy Winehouse. The lemonade stand was a front for a columbian drug cartel.
