Why is it that there are always a few that think they're so much smarter than everyone else, that they're so in control that the rules don't need to apply to them? So in the final analysis, three lives lost to hubris and stupidity. <_<

View from top of falls (first pic) and a close up of the railing (second pic) the three supposedly climbed over for a better picture:

I'm very fond of telling my kids, that in this world, there isn't much that really genuinely qualifies as an accident. Most tragedies of this type generally fall under the more malignant category of Lack Of Forethought.

ralphy... how come the flag is hk? shouldn't it be US?

nice pic of the waterfall tho. so pretty. the closeup pic of the rail makes even more sense of how the hikers fell to their death.

Ralph puts everything under the HK flag. -lol

The railings seem to be a bit too close to the water fall but it shouldn't be a problem if you're not a dumbass (considering you're not a child)

actually...that applies to me too... i like to take risk and take pictures in places i shouldn't be lol..i learned my lesson and still do...at the glaciers 2 weeks ago, i almost fell in the water for going out of the "safety" zone... i don't know why i have the urge to climb and do things i shouldn't...but hey, im still alive =)

  7. ^ what a goo wak jai......

i'm all for thrills... but safety measures were put in place to try to avoid these mishaps.......

sadly fences are not technologically advanced enough to stop stupidity...

    Kdotc the badass!

I have a pond at the park nearby my house.. and when its in the winter.. it's frozen. I assumed that the ice is thick enough so it wouldn't break so my friends and I all rode our bikes on it. lol. But that was like 4 years ago. I have no idea how deep the pond is.. but is fucking dirty in the summer cause of all the geese shit.

You got it! My most favorite place in all the world; HK Lover, all the way! :punk:

    BTW, where was this taken?

    And, more developing information:

And here's a better video of the falls, the strength of the currents, and the huge rocks below. Frankly, even with the metal guard rails, I doubt that I would walk that close to it:

Never been there, but from pictures on the net and commentaries from friends, I understand that it's a beautiful place. Hope I get to see it one day.

But insofar as that pic, definitely a Death Wish if one is next to a raging river. In general, I wonder what is it about the human psyche that finds glorification, or takes gratification in tempting fate? Braggadocio? Being able to strut around with bragging rights of having done something "extreme" so it somehow elevates one's own sense of self in the eyes of the community? That one is somehow "better than the rest" because no one else had done that? I bet many an erstwhile Darwin Awardees likely fell into this category.

More on this heart breaking story; it seems that they weren't the only idiots, just the unluckiest ones:

IMHO police should identify and charge the first man, who took his child over the railing for a "Look What I Did" self glorification picture; he should be arrested and prosecuted under child welfare statues, for felony endangerment, and have his kids taken away from him.

Ah, so that's where it is; likewise, stunning environment. Would love to get to see it one day too. So much of the world to visit and not enough time, money, and opportunity to see it all. One of life's biggest regrets. Still despite the lovely surroundings, IMHO one never needs to take such risks. Nature is as unforgiving as it is beautiful, unfortunately.

you HAVE to check out Banff and surrounding areas. The mountains and scenery and nature and everything is so beautiful. Ill upload some pics later.

but ya..heres another story on the same day i think about 2 young girls 15/16 who died swimming in a lake with danger signs surrounding it

Take the risk. All good there. Nature either rewards you or takes you out.
